EE grad, there's some pretty sick energy marketing action in Dallas. You ever get bored of working for a living, go the business side of the industry and steal a strategic planning, business development or trading job from a finance major or twelve. Nothing like seeing "MATLAB" or "C++" in an entry-level pricing position.
We live near Addison, really like it, it's not as douchy as they make it out, lots of cool places to just chill out without the douche parade to work through. I've lived up here since 99' and there's tons to do man, hope you find a good place plus it's still driving distance down to Houston
If you're serious then you know that 95% of the posts in this thread are a bit biased. Dallas is fine. It's the same as any other sports city..."we're number one!" And since you're coming for California, you're already aware and know how to deal with it. Enjoy North Texas!
honestly, anything to get away from laker fans. though i'm sure mavs fans can get pretty annoying. i just have this nice image in my head that there are a good number of rockets and spurs fans around that i would be able to befriend. out of curiosity, whats the sales tax in texas? also, I went to get my oil changed today and started talking to the guy at the counter. turns out he was from Dallas and he was telling me that it's really really boring there and everything that there is to do I can do in a week. Definitely pretty discouraging. Though he did say to watch out and be careful with the ladies, once they find out I'm from california they're going to get all riled up and excited haha. I laughed and told him well at least thats a good thing then!
i got the job!!!! thank you everyone who wished me luck and sent their good karma! i don't have a start date yet because i need to get security clearance first but more than likely it will be in 3 - 5 weeks. I'll be posting here when i'm ready for housing suggestions so people familiar with the richardson/addison area i'll need your help and suggestions!
Awesome, man! Sales tax is set by the cities you're in. Most of the time it's around 8%. It's true that there isn't a ton of crap to do in Dallas, but you're in Texas now, man! Travel some. Hit the other big cities. It's like entirely different country.
