I still don't see why it's such a big deal...

The regular flu is just as dangerous, if not more dangerous than swine flu. Second, I bet if you add up the number of people who get the swine flu + regular flu this coming year, it would equal to about the same number number of people who got the regular flu last year.

I'm a Pediatrician and the swine flu does have the potential to be bad this year. We don't usually see any flu over the summer, but we have seen some swine flu this summer.

Texas Childrens virology does surveillance tests in the community and there were 100 pos cases in June, 50 in July. Flu does not like hot weather so those are significant numbers.

Since it hit in April when the weather was already warm, it didn't really get going. We think it has migrated to South America (which is winter there) and it may come back with a vengeance this fall.

I have seen a few cases lately, and when school starts back, it does have the potential to spread fast. So far I have not seen anybody seriously ill, but it does have the potential since our immune system may not recognize swine flu as readily.

There is also a race to get the swine flu vaccine out there. I'm bracing for the worst and hoping for the best.

Lets go ahead and recoup the vaccine makers costs by paying for the necessary 3 H1N1 shots each.

This is why I wish there was more journalistic integrity. I trust CDC and WHO are doing their jobs preparing for worst case scenario like they're supposed to. But the media we rely on for information has cried wolf so often on so many different levels of dangers that people dont trust them enough, dont react appropriately to actual threats anymore. Being a year round all day hypochondriac can be exhausting. Been watching my back for possible neighborhood muggers and carjackers while fighting the domestic deadly bacteria in my couch. But dont let your guard down ever, something ELSE might be on the way!

Let me save you all the trouble and let you know the media did not write the report made the subject of rimrocker's last article. It was the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Not the media. Thanks.

    Appreciate that Max.

I guess they're just trying to cover all their bases...they sure seem to talk A LOT more about the grim possibilities, don't you think? That's probably not media edited...this is real folks.

You're a history man Rimrocker...doesn't it say something about repeating itself?

The folks that had been infected with the swine flu showed far milder signs of illness than those infected with other 'regular' flu. But lets pull out the big guns and rush an experimental vaccine to the high risk population...we'll be heroes.

Also, not sure if you remember one of your previous articles, but I believe it said this week we should have a huge outbreak with everyone going back to school...these are Doctors saying this...I guess doomsday=upon us?

Personally I'm going out in this...

We are expecting twins by the end of September and have two kids who are in school. Do you know how early the babies can safely cope with swine flu or are just SOL if it comes home?

Well, both my kids of have it now (one 12 years old, the other 2 years old). Their symptoms right now aren't any worse than a regular flu, so I'm not too worried. The doctor gave them Tamiflu so hopefully that takes care of things.

I had it about a month ago.

I was over it in 2 days.

It was a rough 2 days, but still, no worse than the regular flu.

My friend had it. Said it was only slightly worse than the regular flu and it lasted about a week.

Out of the people I know that do have it, nobody has ever complained that the symptoms were life-threatening.

How long did it take for them to be diagnosed with it?

Went to doctor yesterday, said results will be back monday?

I dont feel much worse than when I've had the normal flu before. Just wish it would go away.

My friend said she had a severe headache, drowsiness, body soreness (everywhere, not just relegated to one part of the body), nausea, vomiting, and cold sweats.

I had it back in May. It did feel different than the regular flu for me. I had a pretty bad headache and one of the worst sore throats I've ever had. I also had a mild cough for the first time in my life. I've never had a cough before, but with swine, I had a mild cough for about 2 days. My chest felt full. All in all, it took about a week to get over it. I was also pretty run down and my body ached.
