If he really looks like he can contribute I wouldnt mind the team offering of those exceptions that expire soon.
What interest would he have in the Spurs with Tony Parker and the great Beno Udrih there? It'll be tough for him to become an All-Star on that team, too. If this story is true, and he doesn't play the way P1 S2 described, the Rockets should be going after this guy.
i was never impressed with his ability to run a team back in college and his first nba season confirmed my beliefs. he was a great college player and a great scorer but he's not a PG and isn't big or strong enough to play the 2. with the injuries who knows how good he is. he wasn't worth a lottery pick to begin with and now we want him as our PG??? i don't think so. i'll pass for a role player who can shoot, pass, and play D. and guess who can't do any of those...jay williams.
I think the Rockets should take a look here. It is a great way to get a potentially very high reward type player if he pans out. But not having to take much risk in the process. The Wolves did that with taking Griffin last year. If the Rockets get Williams and he turns out to be a solid plyer (maybe not even all star type) then that will be an easy way to get a CORE rotation guy that is YOUNG that can be with the team for a long time. Considering we blew our chances at getting those young core players with the draft picks of Griffin, Nachbar, Morris, this is a great chance to make up for it with Williams. He is worth a look. Imagine if the Rockets picked up Williams, brought over Spanoulis and got a solid pick in the draft this year. That would be 3 YOUNG players to build with our Core! It would be a nice step!
?? Send them to who? you use TE's to send to teams for players currently on their roster....last time I checked....WIlliams is a FA... IOW.....Your idea is declined due to impossibility.
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune...jun07,1,365621.story?coll=cs-basketball-print Ex-Bull Williams making strides in comeback effort K.C. Johnson June 7, 2005 Under the supervision of local trainer Tim Grover at ATTACK Athletics, former Bulls guard Jay Williams worked out Monday with Illinois guard Dee Brown and North Carolina guard Raymond Felton and displayed impressive quickness and cutting ability, according to two eyewitnesses. Williams is attempting to return to the NBA after suffering such severe injuries in a June 2003 motorcycle accident that doctors considering amputating his left leg. "All the stuff we've been talking about is coming true," said Kevin Bradbury, Williams' business manager. "He can cut, run backward and his lateral movement is good. He just needs to continue strengthening his leg to get all his speed back. But he's close." Williams is hoping to be invited to an NBA training camp this fall. Considering the Bulls bought out his contract for $3 million they weren't obligated to pay him after he violated his contract, they'd be offered a look. But team sources have made clear there is no interest. Bradbury said Williams spends an hour in physical therapy, an hour playing basketball and an hour lifting weights each day.
He's worth a hard look but there are a great number of negatives attached to this guy. First and foremost is the Duke factor: he may just turn out to be another great college player who is a bust in the pros. His first season at Chicago was nothing to write home to mom about. That accident also makes me question his judgement. Plus, the severity of his injuries make me question his ability to physically compete against the PGs in our conference. Workouts are one thing but keeping up with Steve nash and Tony Parker is another thing entirely. Logic tells me that he's damaged goods and to pass. After all, we already have one PG with injury problems in Sura.
Hillboy, I'm totally down with the Dookie and probaly damaged- goods factors, but um, aren't we're just talking about a possible tryout?
The way I see it is that Chicago is willing to pass on him.. Chicago people... Granted I know they have some great guards allready but I'm talking about Chicago (allready not interested).
I said that he's worth a hard look but let's not delude ourselves here. The guy survived a horrendous motorcycle accident that compromised his greatest strength: his physical ability to play the game at a high level. It is unknown whether he can get back to that level, let alone physically stand up to the demands of the NBA.
Hillboy, no disagreement here. I think I was just surprised Clutch chose to profile him at all, and as you said he may be worth a hard look. At least he'd be someone in camp, that would definitely picque interest. If he's really at close to full speed I'd like to see how Spanouilis would do against him. The thing is there are a lot are pgs out there that are such natural playmakers they could make everyone we've had since Lucas look pretty lame. It's really hard to see how any pg wouldn't want a shot here with T-Mac and Yao. Jay Williams being that guy is a longshot both because of his terrible injury and his size. But if he wants a shot, Houston could really give him a good run for his money and time. If he does want to be in camp here I hope we can get Dick Vitale courtside so Yao can "accidentally" step on his head.
