Remember how many times Cato had a chance to hit an open shot? He couldn't - hell, I'd be happy if he could've just caught the ball. Why would you want more of that? I mean Cato was an offensive disadvantage, so to say there are no disadvantages with Andersen that you didn't have with Cato isn't exactly saying much. Andersen is a better offensive player than Cato, but his offense is limited, and from what I've seen, not the kind of offense this team needs. This offense needs a PF that can hit open shots and make defenses pay. Yao Ming is down low. I don't want the PF's only move to be 5 feet and in dunks or driving to the basket dunks. When the defense has collapsed on Yao, Andersen's best move 80% of the time may be to drive into the paint looking for a dunk or a short range shot - huh? We need something else/more.

The other thing is, we can't just say we need defense at the expense of offense. We need a legitimate 3rd option on offense (yes, Juwan can be that if healthy). We saw what can happen if TMac and Yao are in a groove but the rest of the team is doing nothing.

We may end up getting Andersen, but wow, you guys are way more ecstatic about the guy than I am. He sounds like this year's Brent Barry - the guy everybody wanted, but everybody's probably happy now we didn't.

Offer him the minimum for 3 years to play the backup 4/5. If he takes it, fine. If he doesn't, that's fine too. We need our MLE to get a better player than him. A sign and trade for Moochie and a future second would also be acceptable.

Clutch, many thanks for writing these profiles, they are great. A stark contrast to the official rockets.com page, where they still had the game report for game 7 on the frontpage until yesterday or so.

Looks like we have a winner, DM would really help us out, he can score, rebound and block shots... the question is how long? I mean he's on the wrong side of 30, but I suppose that means that he doesnt have time to waste and therefore is going to be playing hard every chance he gets. I hope we get this guy, even if his game is redundant to JH game, dont care.

    Cato is bigger.

    Anderson hustles.

If CA can stay in front of Dirk, KG, Marion and the like and block out/rebound that is all we can hope for. Duncan will own him but what can you do? I really worry about the lack of minutes he gets on crappy teams, I am hoping that he is sitting because he can't score and they are always behind.

as long as he comes cheap as a second option I'm in but we better have a plan A cause CA is definitely plan B or C

Didn't he destroy us in the 4th quarter of a game at NO this season?

You know, I don't like playing the race card...

...but how much less desired would Chris Anderson be if he were black?

Agree Raven. I don't see the fasination with Chris Andersen..

Maybe half the MLE with the other half going to Demarr Johnson. But that is with the condition we get SAR or Marshall in a Sign & Trade. Andersen is a backup and I would expect him to get less minutes in a Rockets uniform than what he got last year - 21 minutes.

CA - an energy guy off the bench, weakside D and hustle. He is a complementary rotation piece -- IF there is a 30+ minute, night in/night out 4.

If JHo is in Rox plans as such for '05 - '06 then Andersen is a good fit.

What's up with all of the hate for Chris Andersen? We're talking role player, depth and energy here. None of us is handing Andersen the full MLE...IMO chances would be good that Andersen and DerMarr could be had with the MLE.

If you don't think someone like Andersen has value in the rotation, watch some re-plays of the Suns-Mavs series and see how many missed shots hit the court before they were grabbed as rebounds.

I may be a minority of 1, but I'd have preferred Andersen to Bowen on Dirk in the DAL series. The guy grabs 6 boards and blocks 1.5 shots in 21 mpg. I can easily see Andersen being a consistent double-double guy in ~22 mpg on a good team with good coaching.

Yes. Because of his high energy/activity, he would be a good defender against both Dirk and KG..............cheap.

I think Malick Badine could give us 6 boards and 1.5 blocks in 21 mpg. He's also high energy and very athletic, too.

Don't get me wrong, I like his toughness and aggressiveness, but I'd also like to give our 2nd rounder a chance as well.

I'd rather spend the MLE on Daniels and Horry(yes, Horry) and have Badman coming in for defensive purposes.
