They are clones, yet they are not. Similar games but I think AD is more level headed. McInnis gets caught up in junk that effects his game. I think Daniels is a much better floor leader from what I have seen and thus would fit much better on this team. Over the last year I have soured some on McInnis. I still FIRMLY believe we should actively be pursing some sort of Mike James (plus contract to match) for a S&T Antonio Daniels. I could seriously see Seattle going for this as they would get a solid backup PG in James for nothing considering that Daniels is leaving anyway. Seattle was interested in James last offseason. I know PF and a "swingman" are the two major areas to look at for the Rockets, but I still feel that our PG play can be improved. AD would add a lot of defensive to that position and we could then move Sura to the bench where he can be more effective as an "energy" guy off the bench. The Rockets should still SERIOUSLY be looking at Daniels.
If you were AD and the choice was Utah, Cleveland, or the Rox which team do you select? It will be interesting to see who pursues, how hard, and which team he 'selects'.
AD and McInnnis put up similar numbers, but they aren't clones. McInnis played almost all of his minutes at the one last year, whereas Daniels played a little bit of the one and a little bit of the two. But aside from versatility, Daniels is a much, much better defender. Ask any Cavs fan. McInnis routinely got torched by the opposing PG. McInnis also has a reputation as a whiner, while Daniels has been a model citizen since his days in San Antonio (though there was talk that he wasn't very happy in Vancouver... But who was?).
Utah wouldn't be very desirable. Cleveland might be to play with LeBron in the Eastern Conference. But it remains to be seen what Cleveland does with their cap money. Their 1st priority is to find a top flight running mate for LeBron. Someone like Ray Allen or Joe Johnson. Then they have to decide what to do with Z and see if they can get him to come back at a reasonable price. And then they will address the PG position. If they give Z a contract around 9M a year and someone like Allen/Johnson one that starts at 10M, how much money will they have left?
Why would Utah be a bad fit? Just remembered, Cavs have no MLE as they are under the cap. Is AD worth full MLE? To the Rox?
They have 28 mill committed if they take the 1.7 mill option on Traylor. Their roster fills out as: Snow/Harris Welsch/Pavlovic James/Newble/Jackson Gooden/Traylor Varejao I doubt Z gets 9 mill starting. If I were Cleveland, I'd certainly opt for the more athletic Dalembert starting at 7-8 mill per. If Cleveland ends up landing Redd, Allen, or Johnson, I'd actually look to target Luke Jackson perhaps either with taking a bad contract (Newble or Snow) in exchange for a short one like Wesley and/or using the remains of the trade exception to take another player left (the 1.3 mill left from Reece Gaines--1.2+100K-- fits Pavlovic by a matter of a few K.
Only if the more important issues of a rebounding PF and athletic swingman are somehow addressed 1st. That's just my opinion. I know most of you are all goo goo ga ga about this guy. It's not that I don't like him, I would be happy to see him in a Rockets uniform---just as long as the real issues are addressed 1st and the means to acquire him are somehow still available.
