Since I haven't seen it here after browsing, AD did take his option and is a FA. Looking for more than his current $2.25 deal. If the league splits up the MLE, that means we can only offer him a modest raise w/o a S&T. Evan
Did you listen 610 radio show with JVG (The Coach Of The Rockets) who said that Yao's foul troubles is coming from our guards getting beat off the dribble. That tells me that the pt. guard position will be addressed.
Another thing I would like to add is AD penetrated through a tough Spurs defense with ease hitting the midrange jumper.
"Did you listen 610 radio show with JVG (The Coach Of The Rockets) who said that Yao's foul troubles is coming from our guards getting beat off the dribble" Could not agree more. Perimeter defense to me is a bigger need than weakside shot blocking. Even if you get weakside shot blocker Yao is still just as vulnerable to foul trouble if guys aren't afraid to take it to the lane. If guys are having trouble penetrating the defense, Yao doesn't have to worry about always trying to take a charge, or blocking a shot, thus leaving our defensive rebounding a question.
To echo this sentiment about our need for quicker perimeter defense: just look at what Bruce Bowen does for the Spurs. I would argue that he was MVP of the game 1 victory against the Suns because of the way he locked down Marion, who almost never gets shut down. There's no substitute for a guy like that who can singlehandedly neutralize the star scoring PGs and wingmen in the league. (Wesley does a great job against the 6'5" and under crowd, but his size limits him against the taller scorers like Marion.) If we're going to add anyone who isn't a stud passer, I think it makes a lot of sense for us to focus on guys that are exceptional perimeter defenders.
pfpfpfpffpfpfpfppfpfpfpfpfpfppfpfpfpfpfpfppfppfpfpfpfpf a back up or starter please.... pfpfpfpfpfpfpffpfpffppffpfppfpfpfpfpffppffpfpfpfpfpfpfppf i dont get the point ! off season.......grumble grumble... hey phoenix....so what gives ? heeh hee
I still say do a S&T with Seattle for Daniels and give up Mike James. It makes perfect sense. Seattle needs a solid backup PG for Ridnour. Clearly Daniels can start for a number of teams and wants a raise. In this case Seattle gets something for Daniels leaving in Mike James, a player they have looked at in the past. He is a quality backup. They should jump at this chance. And the Rockets get a guy in Daniels that can start, is only 30 years old, playoff tested and has nice size at 6'4" and nice quickness. This puts Sura on the bench where he can be an energizer and doesnt have to play as many minutes and get so banged up. And then waiting in the wings is Spanoulis, who many say is similar to James in terms of his quickness.
I posted this idea on the Sonics board. They pointed out that if we want Daniels, we can have him for the MLE. If James is expendable, we could probably use him in a trade for a forward instead. We're not likely to be able to pick up a big man with the MLE anyway (other than maybe Reggie Evans) If anyone leaves our backcourt, I hope it's not James.
Of course we could have him with the MLE, but with a S&T that means we can SAVE the MLE for someone else and that is the key. I think it is easier to get a forward with the MLE than trade a Small in James for a Big. I disagree that we cant get a Big with the MLE, it is a buyers market out there.
Anyone think that just perhaps Seattle needs to resolve coach (and GM) issues before deter mining whom they shall keep and/or SnT or just let walk?
I would rather spend the MLE on a PF than on AD. I would love to have AD and I think we could get w/o having to use the entire MLE and could probably easily work out a S&T w/ Seattle. Sura + 2nd Round Pick for Antonio Daniels I'd rather trade Sura than Mike James.
They definitely have some issues they need to work out. They have a ton of money this summer but they don't seem willing to spend a lot of it, even on a guy like Ray Allen. I think they will still re-sign Allen, but I think McMillan is as good as gone. The Knicks have already showed interest in Nate and the Sonics haven't shown McMillan a whole lot of respect even after the great season they had.
So, if Casey gets the gig then how do the players there react? if management keeps a hard line on their budget, then what? If Cavs decide AD is the man for them, then what?
No I didn't hear that, i'm an out-of-towner so i'll just have to take your word for it. Although, I think some of you may be taking this out of context. Let's be fair here, Yao picks up a lot of dumb fouls and it's not fair to attribute the bulk of that blame to our PG's. Every guard gets beat off the dribble, it's inevitable. It's not like there's a PG out there that can stop it ALL the time. Daniels is a good defensive player, but he's not going to be on the All-Defensive team anytime soon. I still maintain that his acquisition would be minimal, especially given the fact that there are superstar calibur PF's out there via free agency. Daniels has no superstar potential---he used to but that was wayyy back when our old friend, Stu Jackson, mistakingly thought he was worth a top 5 pick. .....and I don't want you to think i'm under estimating perimeter defense here. It's key, but when you have opponents averaging almost 21 points a game from the PF position, I think it's safe to say that's a pretty glaring need as well.
I don't understand how antonio daniels could be an option. he's garbage. I wouldn't give up bob sura or mike james for him.
Cleveland cant offer the MLE since they dont have it....because they are under the cap. Cleveland makes sense for Daniels though, not so much Utah. I mean Utah wants a PG but I doubt Daniels goes there.
The odd thing- Cleveland has had a virtual AD clone in McInnis. I've heard McInnis wasn't fitting in there so well (meshing with Bron), but if they don't like him...why Daniels? They're honestly about as similar as they come! McInnis is also a free agent, getting relatively little pub. He's about 6 months older than Daniels, turning 31 at the beginning of next season.
