If you look at the 2 teams in the finals right now, they both have 4s that can knock down the three so the winning model might be having that big man that can drop the bomb, Toine can do that. He has a lot of other skills and he seems to have toned down his bombs away act when he returned to Boston, attempting a lot fewer outside shots and shooting that baby hook instead. He made Boston better when he returned and provided veteran leadership when he returned to Boston just as he did in Atlanta. At the right price, I wouldn't mind getting Toine, he wouldn't be my first option but if we can't land SAR, Swift, I think he could be one of the pieces we need to get to the next level.
LMAO not one person here is for it. i will be fair and say this: the good - his shooting range and rebounding will help. the bad - steve francis as a PF...
AW would be a huge mistake for us. With JVG's system, it's important for players to play within their role. AW has never done that and old dogs like him don't learn new tricks. He would disrupt our offense and kill our ball movement. As a starter, he is the kind of player who will hinder a team from making it to the champonship level. He clearly has some skills and can make a bad team improve. But put him on a talented team and it won't work. We have a big 2 on the Rockets and AW would insist on making it a big 3. As a 6th or 7th man, he would be great for a contender, but definitely not as a starter. And AW isn't ready to come off the bench at this stage of his career.
I don't question Walker's heart, because I really believe that he has a desire to win. I just don't want him jacking up 3's all the time.
Walker is by no means my ideal choice but I look at it this way: if Allen Iverson was a free agent and was interested in signing with us for the MLE, do we say no because he's a ball hog? Apparently the answer is yes since nobody seems capable of deriving an elaborated response consisting of anything more than "UGH, NO!" or "He's a chucker!"
Yeah, really. Remind me for the next controversial profile to get a quote from an agent ... that suddenly makes the player the fans' top choice! I've never seen so many fans turn so wildy in favor of a player simply because his representative had complimentary things to say about the Rockets. I mean go back and read some of these lines above ... and now, 'great passer, will tone down his shots, great rebounder' -- where were you guys last week?
LOL, exactly! I'll tell ya, my initial thoughts on Walker on the Rockets is, "no way." But now faced with the "reality" that it might be possible I can sit back and take more time to think about it, see that there could be some positives in there, things I did think about on my initial thought. I am sure that's the case with a number of people. In the end though, I still have mixed feelings about it as it is difficult for me to see Walker as a JVG type of player. Still, my vote is for Bobby Simmons.
Seriously, I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone where the guy wakes up, and he's the same - but everyone else is different!
I'm also a tad amused... I originally didn't post in this thread because I had some complimentary things to say about Walker (I've been a huge fan of his skillset since he came into the league), and I figured I would just get flamed and it wasn't gonna happen anyway.
Haha. And some of these people are the ones that start the threads, saying how the more they think about it Walker is a perfect fit.
Wow, I dont see what the problem is with Walker, I think he would be a great addition to the team. He's already established himself in the fact that he can compete and succeed(to an extent) in the L. Adding a player like him to our team could be a key piece in putting us over the top. He could draw some of the 4's outside to keep them from doubling up on Yao, and T-mac should also benefit, getting some better looks at the basket. But I agree antoine does need to tone down his shot selection, but I am confident he can do it. I for one, am supportive in the Walker to Houston talks. Go get 'em CD.
I didn't want Walker at first either, but now I'm starting to not mind, and I have a strong feeling Walker is going to be who we end up with.
I would be happy with Walker for the MLE,only if a guy like Stromile was starting in front of him.We need that shotblocking and rebounding presence from our top 4.As the first guy off the bench though Antoine, would fit in nicely. As long as he reigns in his game and stays in shape,he's a keeper at the MLE.This is the kind of veteran who would work well under JVG,knowing his role...and it would appear Walker is ready to play smart, doing whatever it takes to win a ring now.Lord knows he's made plenty of cheese.
I thought this profile was crazy when it first came out, and now I still feel the same way. No, NO, NO to Antoine Walker. An agent expressing interest in the rox does not change the way the player plays. Why are you guys suddenly changing your minds? Look, it's not the skill set that dissuades me; it's the intangibles. Skill wise, he's almost everything the rox need from the 4, besides the interior defense. He's quick, has a 3pt shot to spread the floor, rebounds well, and can handle the ball. But mentally, he's used to being the first option. He thinks he's a superstar. He'll demand the ball, and not when he deserves it either. And when he was 3rd option at best in Dallas, he was terrible and had a bad attitude. He's a role player who doesn't know his role. Contrast that with Robert Horry, a role player who LOVED playing his role. Robert Horry's skills may not have shined brighter than Walker's, but the intangibles are what made him a six-time champion (Hakeem, Shaq, and Duncan might have had something to do with it too). I hope this doesn't end up being a "Classic Moment", but if we bring Walker in, I guarantee you we'll be begging to trade him by the end of the season.
Sorry, but i gotta disagree, Walker wants to win and I think he will be fine in a 3rd option role. He obviously knows this is already T-Mac and Yao's team. I think we will all be pleasantly surprised in the 2005-2006 season with his play, assuming he comes here.
I just have a hard time believing Walker will become a Rocket. This just all seems like an agent ploy to create more interest in his client so that Boston will ante up a little more to retain him. From what I have read and seen throughout the last few years, he really likes playing in Boston and is real good friends with Pierce. Ainge has stated that they would like to keep him but I'm sure they are not going to throw all kinds of money at him. Due to the fact that no team is going to throw more than the MLE at him, I think his agent is leaking this whole "mutual interest" story with the Rockets so Ainge will offer a little more for him. Its just a theory but I can't believe, like alot of others (especially last week), that this is a player who JVG covets to play PF for him.
