Troy Smith has really grown on me. He seems to be mobile and accurate. I would be fine with him as our new QB. If we draft a QB....I really think we need to go after a RB, maybe through free agency or with our second round pick.
He has really grown on me too. I loved the way he played in the Texas game and the Michigan game. He was brilliant in two huge games. He is patient, he can run, he has a strong arm, he throws very accurately and takes his time and follows through on his throws well.. He has poise and he has some of the leadership ability of Vince, and he is a very humble mature guy. He's no Vince but then again, I don't think there ever will, but Troy can be a very good QB as well.
I say they should go with Adrian Peterson in the first round and hope Troy Smith is still there early in the second round, possible trade up for him.
Matt Schaub...it's gonna cost us a draft pick cause he's restricted. and draft Marshawn Lynch - RB from CAL
I was thinking the same, but I'm pretty sure that Troy Smith will be gone in the early part of the second round. I do think we should trade up and keep our top 5 pick, but trade for a mid first rounder to get Troy.
We'll most likely be drafting in the early part of the second round. If Troy is available in the 2nd, I think we should take him. Him or Kolb would be nice picks IMO.
Can you try to be positive about anything even accidentally? Historically yes, you are right! Before this year's draft, which much to your chagrin we were rated a top3 or top5 in the NFL, we were collective screwups. The pick of Babin in exchange for 3 draft picks was absolutely moronic. Then, they attempt to convert him to LB from DE. Then, they draft Travis Johnson in the 05 draft when they could've gotten Derrick Johnson, Merriman, DeMarcus Ware, Pollack, Jammal Brown-a pretty good OT for the Saints now by the way. What was worse is they said Derrick Johnson would have difficulty in sustaining his performance in a 3-4 alignment compared to a 4-3. Whatever ... The FA's brought in, Moulds, Weaver, Kalu were no scrubs. Even Great Dayne has made some plays. Personally, I think you're venting and it's understandable. The Texans right now are walking chaos and frankly frustrating the sh*t out of all of us and their golden opportunity blunder, but some pieces are coming into place and you can see a little glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Hey at least we have people who know HOW to draft unlike C&C Idiot factory.
If we're looking for a stop-gap (as we should), what's wrong with just using Sage and spending QB money elsewhere? He's played well when given the chance. Draft Smith or Kolb and give Sage the reigns until the new guy is ready. Who knows....what if Sage becomes the next Romo (although he has come back down to earth as of late).
because schaub has up-side. because schaub may just be a stop-gap...but he might also be a lot more than that. i don't think sage would be anything but a stop-gap. just my opinion, of course.
How much more upside does he have than Sage? They're both serviceable backups. Why overpay for one when we already have one? Lord knows we could use that money elsewhere.
maybe you're right. schaub has looked really good in some of his opportunities, though. but then again, sage looked good in the first titans game.
Troy Smith is actually perfect for the Texans system. He's mobile and is accurate with his passes on rollouts. His arm strength is underrated IMO. Only problem is that some scouts think he is only going to measure 5'11 at the combine.
Merrieman (12th) and Ware (11th) were both picked before the Texans had a chance. If I remember correctly, the Texans had the 13th pick which they traded with NO for the 16th and their 3rd rounder for the 2006 draft (Eric Winston). NO picked Jamal Brown 13th and DJ went 15th. I was pissed at that move too, but he still almost landed in their laps. They passed on Alex Barron (rams), Erasmus James (Vikes), Marcus Spears (Cowboys), Luis Castillo (chargers), Mike Patterson (eagles). lots of good talent, but that goes to show that drafting isn't an exact science as they say. Every team passed on Demico Ryans once. On the defensive side of the ball it's about effort more than anything. Look at Lufa Tatupu
And do you know how many Ravens jerseys you'd see in Cleveland if Baltimore took him? I'm guessing zero. Their fans don't suck.
