Cuttino's a special player. H'es no one to build around, but his presence can single-handedly raise a team to incredible heights. Can anyone imagine him on Minnesotta? Bye bye first round exits. Lakers? Bye bye Bulls Dynasty. SPURS? hello Spurs dynasty. Can you imagine what Cuttino would do with defenses having to collapse either on him or on Duncan?
I think Cat (and Steve) would benefit from playing fewer minutes. Cat averaged about 42 mpg, and Steve about 41mpg... playing hurt much of the time as well. Steve is usually penciled in to backup Cat at SG, but they both will be more effective with less time on the court. The question's been asked, but really, who's going to back up Cat? This is the biggest unknown heading into the season (imho). I don't see a real weakness on the team (with everyone healthy) except for depth at SG.
I think he needs to improve in the not-shooting-all-the-time area. I guess that goes hand & hand with IQ & passing, though.
Cat shoots about 18 shots per game, or about 3 shots every seven minutes. That doesn't seem like too much to me, especially considering the fact that for many games he was the only viable option on offense.
Well he averaged just over 18 shots per game( 18.4 spg 44 FG%). That does not appear to be "shoot-all-the-time" area. Especially considering that he is option #2 and sometimes option #1 on the team. Compare him to some other SG who are #1 or #2 options on their teams. A. Houston - 16.9 spg 44 fg% L. Sprewell - 17.5 spg 40 fg% K Bryant - 20.0 spg 47 fg% M Finley - 17.8 spg 46 fg% R Mercer - 17.9 spg 39 fg% Cat matches up to those guys quite favorably and he will only get better.
