he said "too many blacks go looking for it", and then proceeded to give evidence from a t.v. show that is about race relations btw. how did i misunderstand that?
Too many is relative. To him, too many could be one or it could mean one million. I don't think that he was meaning all blacks.
dude has a history of making sweeping statements like that, that's why I said it was par for the course.
the thing that gets me is that we can't have a conversation about race without the "I'm tired of blacks playing the race card" comments. who cares if rocket river feels something is racist. lets talk about it instead of judging each other. I bet that as much as rocket river talks about racism on this site that he has never made one complaint about racism in his own personal life as it relates to him. he has probably never made any complaints at work, school, or where ever. so who cares, this is just a discussion.
I think its great that we have a forum like this in which to discuss it and I agree that it should be a topic of discussion. Part of that discussion should be the wonderful race card. I see it and also grow tired of it. I try not to b**** about it and think, wow, look, a dumbass. Every race has it share of dumbasses who are stupid in their own ways so I figure it is par for the course.
every example i give you you disregard. every single one. whether it be from a tv show, personal experiences, or any other reference i make. so your opinion on this matter not only means very little to me, it's also extremely biased. but i guess it's only racism when it's white discriminating black, right?
because your examples are always b.s., the last example you gave is your observation of kids in the mall. while there are a lot of educated black people on this site who you probably have more interaction with than your actual "examples".
Also Bruno kind of REFUSES to see thing being intentionally blind to various things but hey . .. . you automatically give Bruno the benefit of the doubt and see him as the most honest party the show was set up faulty to begin with imo Rocket River
not at all (about giving bruno the benefit of the doubt). i probably should've mentioned it in that post, but bruno is definitely ignorant on several aspects himself - like his blantant use of the word n*****. but when the black father is trying to instill a sense of being discriminated against onto his son when his son doesn't feel discriminated against, i find that frustrating. what is he trying to teach his son? i'm sure if the son ever felt serious prejudice or discrimination, he'd realize it. the father makes it seem like being black automatically puts a target on you, and i dont see it like that at all.
This is part of a larger problem with race issues. Many times minorities can emphasize the wrong issues at times that simply are irrelevant. On the flip side, those who represent the mainstream privileged society don't recognize many of the structural barriers and issues that exist and respond to everything with "stop playing the race card" when many times there are legitimate applications but because "the race card" is used so often many times we refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of very many race claims or find it harder to do acknowledge them. Lets not forget that racism is a real thing that still exists. And it doesn't simply exist on and individual level. Sure there are closet bigots in the world but those represent a tiny minority. What is the real problem, is the institutional discrimination created by society and societal institutions. These covert forms of racism generally get ignored and yet they are real things that many times we subtly encourage or at the very least allow to continue unchallenged.
you prefer he allow his sone to remain ignorant of the situation? just because his son doesn't 'feel' it. . . does not mean it is not going on his son is what. . 16. . . perhaps he does not recognize it in his young life that does not mean it isn't there. . . I prefer to prep a child for the future and make them aware of what is going on rather than watch them run into the wall time and time again wondering. . what the h*ll is going on!! Rocket River you have to prepare a child for life. . . and in his opinion . .that is what he is doing. . . if his son sticks his head in the ground and doesn't see it when it is there his son will probably end up making a critical mistake . . that he may not come back from
Since we are talking about Black/White, could Nick be any more of a negative stereotype of a black teen? He was kicked out of school, he tries to dress like a gangster (by his own admission, no less), he blows all of his money on a flashy watch that he has no use for, even though he doesn't have a job. He is like a caricature that some skinheads would write on their website.
At the same time, you're more likely to look for racism in everyday situations when your father is in your ear telling you they exist. Part of growing up is experiencing life first hand, and drawing your own conclusions about the world we live in. And that applies to all racist -- I have had some white friends who grew up with a father in their ear telling them stuff to look for. How can stereo-types of certain people ever die if all we do is pass them on to our kids? If you expect to see something, you'll most likely turn a situation so it meets your desired view.
I agree but honestly. . in the black community the ideal is that some situation will end up with you being DEAD I'm serious The general ideal among black people is that you cannot afford to misjudge a situation The motto of: "When America gets a cold Black America gets Pneumonia" Basically . . . it is a general beleif backed up by experience that small mistakes that others can make and get by are more dire for Black Americans. NY HOTTIE sells a lil pot and gets off black person would get 5 yrs prison Rocket River We have to teach our kids to be more aware and based on the show Brian's son is a knucklehead anyway
