Get ahold of yourselves. The League is getting another turn of Arrighetti and Yusei. It remains to be seen if JV can pull it together..and how the Astros handle it. Right now we're playing atrocious ball...and getting what we deserve.
That would be my choice. If it goes 3, and the Astros move on, game one of ALDS would need to be a 4th guy, then Framber could start game #2.
Id. Can we go for Blanco game 1 of series 2? Blanco then Framber then Brown then Kikuchi if thats how she plays out?
Of course they can but it's going to take balls to decide to keep Verlander off the postseason roster if he's healthy. Verlander probably isn't a bullpen option like Blanco is.
Framber Brown Kikuchi Spencer/JV/Whoever Blanco is a weapon in the pen, starter goes 3ish innings, gets in trouble, then he comes in for another 3
Framber Brown Kikuchi JV- we all know they aren’t putting him in the pen. Unless an “injury”appears. If that’s the case I’d go Blanco over arghetti. Speghetti has better stuff but is more prone to a big inning.
For the playoffs, I think the rotation goes: Game 1 - Verlander Game 2 - Framber Game 3 - Kikuchi The Astros will be able to bring in Blanco, Brown, and Arrighetti if any of the top 3 starters gets into trouble early. I think the 4th starter is Blanco when the situation arises. But with Brown and Arrighetti being high strike out pitchers, they can be called in for long relief if they need a pitcher to go 3 or 4 innings till they can get to the bullpen. Plus if the game had gotten out of hand, those fellas can pitch long enough to save the bullpen for the following game. Of course this is an overall assessment, because depending on whom the 1st round series is against, the pitching matchups might be tweaked based on matchups.
Verlander has 1 more chance to make the post season roster, but he has already blown any chance at being a traditional 5+ inning starter in the postseason. If his start vs Cleveland goes reasonably well then he piggy backs w/ Blanco in game #1 of ALDS, if the Astros get through the WC round. He gets to start but first sign of trouble, the Astros bring in a traditional RP like Neris or Scott to get out of the inning, then Blanco takes over to start the next inning. WC 10/1 game #1 Framber 10/2 game #2 Brown 10/3 game #3 Kikuchi ALDS 10/5 game #1 Verlander- goal 3 ip / Blanco 10/7 game #2 Framber ( 5 days rest) 10/9 game #3 Brown ( 6 days rest) 10/10 game #4 Kikuchi ( 6 days rest) 10/12 game #5 Framber ( 4 days rest)
The ONLY reason JV would start game 1 is if Framber, Brown, and Kikuchi have all pitched in the WC series Blanco is ready at first sign of trouble. Neris is designated "strand inherited runners" guy so Blanco can start a fresh inning. Arrighetti is a 5-7 inning leverage/bridge guy who can pitch multiple innings or be 7th inning guy of one of the big 3 are unavailable.
What if the Stros are playing meaningful games in the last ~week? How are you going to magically line up a postseason rotation since they'll be playing in the WC round? I said nothing about JV, btw
Misunderstood. Thought you're comment was in reference to my suggestion of JV starting ALDS game #1. As for meaningful games, it's already very unlikely but the rotation is mostly already set.
