I think if as bulks up and refines his jump shot that he could be a nice power forward for many years, in the mold of Karl Malone.
Scola has been an incredible addition to the team and he definitely has some post-up moves. However he isn't and IMO won't be a dominating post presence, someone who the team can dump the ball into when things get bogged down and we need that extra basket. Nor do we expect him to be.
i have observed scola obtain post position but he will be ignored by the guards...it's not necessarily the case that they don't look for him later in the shot clock when he's moving around, but they never have the idea of initiating the offense with scola. but i wish the guards would be more open to this idea, because i think he will pass if he is in trouble.
Scola definitely needs more touches in the paint and as you said he is a smart player. An example last night was his kickout to Rafer for a 3 when he didn't have a clear path. He can't be a Yao Ming but he needs to score more often in the low block and make his free throws.
It was reported somewhere that Carrol Dawson has been coaching Carl Landry. I am sure that post moves are in the repertoire somewhere there. Don't forget that he was a back to basket player against Greg Oden, Al Horford and Joakim Noah and did very well against them.
Well i have a friend that is 6-8 and still plays bball for the club i used too in my country (Argentina), and he had some knee injuries when he was near 22 years, then his team fisio told him to avoid dunking unless necessary because it damages the knees a lot. He likely never dunks now, even when maybe is quite necessary, but he has never injured that knee again.
