Another "wager" on this Dwight gamble Morey talked about was the time delay for our FA pursuits. While we wait for Howard's decision, we might miss out some good FAs we could otherwise get.

I don't disagree that you absolutely should go for the biggest fish with your capspace. I am just saying that there are risks you take and it is in itself a sort of a trade.

Remember the Knicks let us rob them just so that they might clear enough salary for the big FA class in 2010? We are not nearly as bad as NY was, but it's analogous to the situation.

This is what I posted last week. It is possible Morey is only following the orders of the owner in trying to sign Howard. If it was up to him, he may be going in a different direction.

I'm worried that injuries will limit Howard's effectiveness..

You are not the only one. I do not want max money tied up in a center who can't play due to injury. We have already been through that. That would be a waste of the Harden contract. Not to mention, even is he is healthy, we could easily see the "Dwightmare" appear that has been ongoing for the last few years.

How did he do again last season after coming back from injury again? I will give you a guess, still significantly better than Asik did. Even on his worse season, he was still arguably the best center in the league. You don't pass up on that, no if's, and's, or but's.

Another problem with the idea of saying Asik is going to play backup center & that he is going to play 15 minutes a game effectively is that let's say you substitute him into the game in the second quarter & he changes the game in some way by playing well. Then McHale will want to leave him in the game for 10 or more minutes. And then he will get equal minutes in the second half & possibly be finishing games at times. So he will be getting 25-30 minutes per game at times because he is that good. I think it is conceivable he will outplay Howard a lot like how Beverly took Lin's minutes. So Howard will be a max player, but potentially playing under 25 minutes occasionally or often. That is not an ideal situation at all.

If Asik outperforms Howard, it will be either because Asik has become a 20/10 player or Howard has degraded closer to a 12/10 player or somewhere in between. Even then, the answer is simple; if there is an issue between them, trade one of them (which ever commands more star power), otherwise enjoy the luxury production.

I really don't get where this comes from. As good as Asik is defensively Howard had an off year and still put up better numbers than him rebounding and blocks wise(even though his off ball/help defense was average at best). Asik already showed how we can put a big man in the best position to be successful when he did damage against okc by simply rolling and finishing so what do you think we can do with howard who has better hands, better skills around the basket and he's a better athlete. Again this isn't a knock on Asik, just facts on dwight

any time you have a chance to get the best player at his postion you do it. The difference between teams that win big and teams that lose is TALENT.

Yeah but for 14 million more we could get a Jose Smith or even a Rondo on the team. The question is, is Asik + a 14 million dollar player < than Howard? Hell even LBJ isn't paid 22 a year and LBJ is the best. If we got Howard for 15-18 then it may be worth it but over 20 I feel the team loses money for key role players and that's why I think the Rockets will fail if they go with this trade.

exactly which is why it's so weird to me that a lot of rockets fans hate big names so much. Take out the pistions and look back at the last 20 years of teams that won ships. The NBA is not like the NFL, a better team can beat a couple of talented players on a worse team in the NFL. You can't say that when talking about the NBA

Right so lets continue being a team with no impact post player. That way we can continue to play at our ridiculous pace, jack up the score, not play good d and become the new phoenix suns. Works out great in the reg season, not so much in the playoffs

I have had the same injury and surgery as Dwight. I have had the same injury and surgery on two different disc the last decade. I can guarantee I am not the man I used to be and I do not run and jump for a living. Dwight was not the player he used to be, surely even you could see that. All this and that is not even mentioning his "Dwightmarish" tendencies when he is not happy. I have already accepted he will sign with us and I will accept him. I will just hope for the best and expect the worst.

Its kinda like being in vegas if you dont bet big you will never win big. Problem is if you wait and wait for that perfect player chances are youll never get him. You have a chance to add the number one player at his spot you take that chance. If it doesnt work out it doesnt work out but what your doing is giving your team the best chance to win. There is a reason why the lakers mavs are trying so hard to get him and thats because he is a difference maker at his position. When ya have that chance you do it.

Even if his back does hold out, I do not recall the people of Indianapolis going through a "Peytonmare" every year. His back is not the only reason I do not want him. His attitude is what scare the heck out of me.
