I agree. Can't pass up the chance to sign the top C in the game today, even if he will never be close to what Hakeem was. And if it doesn't work out, we can trade him for a boatload of assets. Probably 2 1st rounders and an All-star plus a rotation player or 2 we could yield if we must trade him. Its a win-win situation even if he doesn't pan out for us.

Getting Dwight might backfire, but the Rockets have been after this guy for years. At least we aren't trading away all our assets to acquire him. If it turns out to be a poor fit, then maybe he could be traded. If he gets injured, that's just the way it goes. The rockets are going all in for this guy, so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

While there is some risk in acquiring Dwight, you can't ignore the huge upside if everything pans out.

Exactly. What I don't care for is the Rocket's propensity (Morey) to blow things up at the drop of a hat. I wonder how Asik and Lin feel right now and how they will feel if the Rockets are right back at square one the start of the season? Remember how Martin shut down after a trade fell through. Players are humans not assets. I think Howard would be a great addition, but at what cost? And what happens if he stiffs the Rockets AGAIN? Has the effort to get him killed what we had growing here?

I don't know why people keep saying things like that. It is completely asinine to care about things like team stability and chemistry if you don't have a core that can contend for a ring. What is the point of nurturing team chemistry for a team whose core cannot compete. You keep trying different players until you find your franchise players. Until then, what is the point of committing to a team that can't possibly contend for a ring?

I am not a Dwight fan, supporter but I do support him if he decides to give it a go.
I don't like his class clown antics, immature behavior..... the way I dislike Royce Flightman's.
I hope he can at least help feature Houston in several Finals appearances.
Not a big candidate to retire in Houston if he plays here but one step at a time.

This. And don't you think the whole caravan at midnight thing is a bit too melodramatic?

I like Morey as a great GM. But sometimes the media drama he creates is a bit too much for my taste.

How do you know the current talent will never develop into a contender? You can't know that. I thought they showed a great deal of promise. Tony Parker wasn't so great his first years in the league, but he got better and better. Why can't that happen here? I agree that Howard is an addition you can't pass up, but if he doesn't come, Lin and Asik are going feel like pawns to be moved at any moment. That can't be good for ongoing development.

signed, he isnt worth 12 mill more than asik. That 20 mill in cap can be used to make needed upgrades and save some for next offseason

and who would you want to sign next season?
at some point all the cap space has to turn into a player, and dwight is the best center in the game

    Hi I'm the OP.

This is basically what I'm saying: I think what happened with the Lakers and also his last few years with the Magic says something about Dwight. People can blame Kobe and D'Antoni all they want, but Howard is a chemistry killer. I don't want us to turn into the 2012-2013 Lakers.

The Spurs have taught the league that chemistry is everything. Morey should stop trading entire chunks of the team and let the same core of guys gel.

I think us bending over backwards to sign Howard is a big mistake. D12 is good but not THAT good. If we end up signing him, we're going to end up regretting it and I'll be sure to revive this thread 6 months from now to say, "I told you so."

Chemistry killer? Since when did the Lakers have chemistry to begin with haha. He put up all star-numbers coming off surgery, and returning early for the sake of playing. Playing with a terrible bench, d-league starters (bad ones at that), Duhon, and Kobe will do that to you.

I forgot, who won back to back championships these last two years? They had chemistry issues to.

Did they? Lebron James is a team player. Howard...well...I don't see anything about him.
