Leeb, it's not that easy. DHoward doesnt come along every draft. And imagine where OKC would be if Portland had some sense and drafted Durant instead. OKC lucked out. Rebuilding through the draft can be great, but your pick is only as good as the talent that year and sometimes the talent isn't there at the level it should be.
theres so much fail in your posts its not even worth it. start because he'd throw a hissy fit? Enjoy and leave the GARM when Battier the great gets traded in the offseason  this is the new young rockets so get used to it.
LOL Ariza has a great game and he still gets flamed. Trevor is a better player than Shane. Stop living in the past, Battier isn't starting material anymore.
Look what tracy got. Shaq inly got some good young players, but they were flipped for other players. There are teams who would rather sell tickets and advertisements than win games. V.3, I do understand what you're saying about durant, but the same can be said if mchale would've kept roy bs trading him for foye. What about the guy who went ahead of lopez? If you can evaluate talent and morey has shown he can evaluate talent, that also includes other teams players as well as the draft. I like yao, i don't want to pay yao 17m for 14-7 an half a season. Now some teams will see that as good enough especially if they've been strugling for a long time. If you know what you're doing in the draft, the turn around should be 4 years. If you have good young talent already, it should be even less.
saying that portland regrets drafting oden over durant is like saying the rockets regret draftimg yao over amare stoudemire
No it's not. Durant is many times better than Oden. At this point, I would think they are about even. Both are injury prone offensive big men.
We got Hill, salary dump Jeffries, and 2 protected picks for tracy. But that's because the Knicks were in salary dump mode agenda, not because they wanted to build around tracy. And that proves my point that getting franchise players back for a franchise player (or getting paid as one) is pretty rare. Shaq argument has major flaw and that comes in #24. The Lakers already had Kobe and were going to rebuild around him and so they were willing to deal Shaq for 2nd tier players, which Odom and Butler are/were. Sure Kobe was a free agent but he really wanted to stay in LA and just used his free agency status to oust Shaq. So unless you are saying you are willing to rebuild around AB, then the Shaq point is flawed. And again, trading Yao for role players then depend on draft to get you that franchise player is not something that entices me, lottery is a crapshoot in having special players. I still don't think dumping him for valuable assets is as easy as you make it out be, I can almost guess you are somehow trying to get Ricky Davis again. Seriously, I want to hear what you think we can get for Yao.
amare is not injury prone only had one major season ending season injury yoa has being injured every year like oden and has missed 2 playoff series entire 2008 playoffs and 2009 semifinals
Aw man! I missed the game today....But by reading other posts, seems like we really missed Battier....
My point about Brooks is proven again tonight. 3rd game in a row where his shot is not falling and we get in a big hole. If AB is not scoring he doesn't do anything else to help the team win. I dont know if he will start next year. They may let him come off the bench and just let him shoot shoot and shoot. He doesn't seem to be developing his playmaking skill. Not good at using his speed to draw defense on drives and kick to open players or draw fouls on his defender to get to the FT line. I like him but I'm jus sayin. . .
No ricky davis? . When the shaq trade went down, most people called it a terrible trade because they traded a still dominant player for 2 young talents(butler and odom) and a contract filler in grant. They went to the lotto and got the 17 yr old bynum. They traded butler for a signed kwame brown. Of course we know and how they got gasol from memphis. My poinnt is, they didn't have to trade shaq because he had another year left on his contract and no one was going to pay him over 20m at that time. They traded shaq a year earlier vs a year late and reaped the benfits even if they had 2 1 and done playoff appearences. You ask what can or what should we look to get for yao? Of course that depends, but if teams he's know to be availible, some teams will bite. Bosh would be the logical answer, but he would have to want to come here. lopez would be great, but would the nets sell out for a hort term gain in the seat department? Marc Gasol would be nice also, but they would have to include more than that, maybe even thabeet also and a pick. Iwouldn't give him away, i just don't see the upside to keeping him.
I was hoping for the Rockets to make a late-season run for the playoffs. Looks like it's out of the question now. I'm excited for the future, but disappointed that we won't be playing the Lakers in the first round.
There is alot talk about trading Yao. Before we can think about considering doing that, let him return next year and see his level of play and how he fits with the team. Lets face it the Rockets lost their best player. Imagine the Cavs without Lebron, Miami without Wade or Denver without Carmelo. They will still win games but over the long season their going to have periods where without having a star they will struggle. There is alot of talk about rebuilding, well we are rebuilding because the Tmac era is over. We have Martin and others who are suppose to complement Yao, Brooks and Scola. We also acquired Knicks first round pics for next year. The teams that rebuilt went through some very bad seasons. We are still a .500 ball club without Yao, so unless we totally gut this team we will have a slim chance of getting a top five draft pic. If Yao returns to form we will be solid team and will need another solid big man to make us contenders.
If you can't see the upside of keeping him and that you want to go for the long run, then why are you expecting other GM's to trade for him. Is there a team who wants his contract and willing to unload good players. If there is they can't just be good players, they need to PF/C because our back up /current center is only 6 foot 6. The teams that may consider a trade is a team that is already is a strong team and take the short term risks if it puts them over the top. But who would these teams trade, most likely not another big man which we would need.
Continuing the Lakers/Shaq angle, did you not understand my point about Kobe? If the Lakers did not have Kobe to rebuild around, would they have been as eager to trade Shaq then? It's easy to say what Shaq brought in when you have Kobe to rebuild around. Yao for Bosh does not compute, you are basically restarting the process again and rebuilding around Bosh. I like Bosh but I don't see him carrying a franchise, he's a 2nd tier in my eyes. You need to be careful about trading Yao for role players, you can't win rings with role players.
I thought Bud moved well without the ball tonight. He was moving off screens but wasn't getting the passes he normally gets. Still, a pretty crappy game. I wish Martin would of scored big. Hilton Armstrong really does suck.
I'm not building around bosh, I'm building a team with bosh. The hawks are building around who? The team just has to have high end players who will show up and be productive. Every player is a role player, just different roles. To say lopez is a role player is non sense and to say I would trade Yao for trash isn't the option either. I'm just saying they should strongly, strongly consider it. If they just let his contract expire, then what?
Something I noticed tonight, but Kevin Martin looked like he felt bad, I noticed he held his stomach alot, something must be going around. What happened to Chase, this is 2 bad games for him. Positive note, Matt said Jordan might play tomorrow night.
So who else are you building around Bosh with? You think AB, Martin, and Bosh will take us to the Finals? You think we can afford another max player after Bosh? I don't. Don't mean to hate on the Hawks who are doing well, but I don't see them winning titles with that current team makeup. Just an exciting team to watch during the regular season and make a nice playoff team that will lose to teams that have actual franchise players. I thought the point of all this was to win rings. Nets won't trade Lopez for Yao, moot point in my mind. My role player comment was about Marc Gasol. Ever had the sinking feeling that Yao will retire as a Rocket? Because that is still a possibility. Why? Because Morey will find out that the possible assets in return won't be enticing to him.
