This was such a hard game to watch. The players were obviously tired from the back-to-back situation and it showed. They were just sloppy and out of sync all night long. I think it speaks more to how terrible the Wolves are that the Rockets played as badly as they did and they still won by double digits. Even the Grizzlies would have probably blown out the Rockets last night, the way they were playing. That team has zero talent outside of Al Jefferson. All the Rockets had to do on defense was double team him and force the ball out of his hands, and the Wolves were completely helpless.
A few notes on things I have noticed so far: - We didnt play all that well tonight, if this was against a better team we probably would of lost. But alas, a win is a win. - This team is loaded, any two of like seven guys tend to have stellar games and carry us to a victory. This is something we havent really had in the past. It was if Yao and Tracy didnt have good games, we lost. Occasionally Rafer would not shoot 1-10 and when that happened we were usually dominant. - Aussie Rocket is really starting to get into a groove. I think he is going to be a major piece down the line. - Hayes was all over the place tonight. He has improved so much since he was a starter it is ridiculous. It really sucks we are so stacked at PF. Once Yao comes back I see Hayes minutes taking the biggest hit. There is really alot to like about this team, right now this is way beyond my wildest dreams as far. If Tracy can come back healed and play atleast 80% of what he was, the season should be very promising.
Tough win tonight. Usually we end up blowing a game like this. A back to back against a less then stellar opponent, but we fought back late. Great game by Scola.
Dimemag- After Corey Brewer got a dunk off a Houston turnover, the Minnesota broadcast waited until a stoppage in play to show the replay. Standard fare, only this time they made us miss Chuck Hayes shooting a free throw. We don’t care if Brewer did a backflip and cooked Prince some pancakes in mid-air, you don’t rob people of the chance to see Chuck Hayes shoot free throws … We’re out like McGrady. Still … I lol'd.
Okay that's hilarious. I loved the comment from Tubby about Chuck's free throws. Tubby: "I asked him, who's been working on your free throws with you, son. And he told me that big guy from New York." Bill: "Patrick Ewing" Tubby: "Yeah" Bull: "Why would he be helping, he was a horrible ft shooter" Bill: "That's why he's not here anymore"
To be honest I don't know. He played when I was only an NCAA fan. I am sure we can find a few youtube clips of him taking free throws.
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/e/ewingpa01.html Ewing did manage to shoot 74% for his career.
I wished I had recorded this game, because we finally have proof for the world that Chuck Hayes didn't always have that hitch. I've been telling you guys for months that he shot over 70% in college and whenever he went to the line, I never ever remember thinking it was a bad thing. In fact, I believe he made a few clutch free throws late in games back then. We wanted him to goto the line. Classic line though. Tubby Smith: Oh no, do we have to watch this? That whole segment with Tubby was youtube worthy.
He didn't have a hitch, he had a long delay. He would be at the line forever and when he brought the ball up, he took awhile to release it. Near the end, he improved quite a bit to that 74%. Granted, you have to consider how many attempts he got which enabled him to up that percentage. He reminds me a lot of Tim Duncan in that way. Duncan career is 68%, but if you take away that year he shot 80%, that number goes down considerably. Regardless, neither Duncan or Ewing shouldn't be teaching free throw shooting classes
We were obviously tired in this game. they said they got in at 2:30am. Back to backs are going to be tough with this squad. Good thing we were able to pull it out in the end.
that was Anthony Mason in New York who had like a 6 second hitch. Bring the ball up go into shooting motion.. STOP HOLD HOLD HOLD HOLD HOLD shoot. still IMO the worst free throw shooting technique i've seen. Chucks is funny looking but Anthony Mason's made me cringe i mean the ball would be at the apex of his shot and he'd hold it there for so long and then shoot
but according to smith, chuck's ft % was in the 70%'s in college and wasn't this funny looking at all. i just can't understand how one's ft stance can change so much.
Once I get the full game downloaded I will post a bunch of the Tubby stuff on Youtube... I will have to edit it out. My UK friends will like it too.
