Well, against Utah I think Lowry will get more minutes because he has a better chance of slowing down Deron Williams.

But yeah, I agree with you.

I'd like or him to stop gambling so much, especially when he's 15 feet in, he just leaves the opposingplayer wide open

shane can't guard roy. there's a reason adelman didn't put him in last year's playoffs or the 2 games this year. the few times shane was on him, roy blew by him with ease.

you would think if it's that simple, adelman and his coaches would have shane on roy already.

but yes, ariza's D has been disappointing. we knew this is where we would miss yao the most: on the defensive end.

Cant agree with that comment. Sure Ariza missed an assignment or two but I paid particular attention to his marking on Roy and I thought he stayed touch tight 90% of the time. Roy is an all star and he gets his points regardless of who marks him.

    Yeah, I agree.
I think maybe his defense has been a bit overrated.
In LA, it was easy for him to play the passing lanes, because he had Odom, Gasol, and Bynum protecting the basket.
    He was able to gamble.

Now if he gambles, it's almost an easy lay-up for his man.
Our defense relies a lot on our wings staying in front of their man :/

I just wish that people were knowledgeable enough to realize how good Shane really is defensively.. and Chuck.

I'm going to assume this means no more talk about Outlaw, please.

I've been noticing this a lot in the 3 games the rockets have played. Ariza gambles on the passing lanes and his length makes it pretty good for the most part. However, you can't gamble when you're guarding someone like Roy. Roy was getting wide open looks.

Outlaw had a tough night. And it looked like Battier got him pretty frustrated in that one sequence.

I more or less agree, however, I think DA is below average on defense and Dorsey is below average on offense.

I'm not a big Dorsey fan, but I think he at least has potential considering his summer league and college production levels. Perhaps his problem has something to do with the pressure of playing in the NBA. If this is the case, he can possibly overcome this issue by playing a few minutes here or there.

Whatever the case, we can't continue to be out rebounded by considerable amounts and expect to win games.

It is interesting that the Rockets choose not to put Battier on Roy. Artest guarded him last year, and Ariza guards him this year.

I remember that Battier struggled defending Roy in his first two seasons with us. The Rockets must be keeping track of that.

I dont think his defense was overrated, he's always been more of a roamer on D than a stay in front defender. He does his damage through playing the passing lanes, coming over on the weakside, things like that. I think he's too long limbed to physically stay with quicker players though, he may do a better job staying in front of the Rashard Lewis types.

Let's remember this win and all the good things you said about Ariza and AB the next time they have a bad outing.

Lowry perhaps is better with Yao? Gets us in the penalty, distributes well.

AB just flat out can blow by his guy. And when his outside shot is falling to boot, wow, just wow.

    They play well together though.

 I'm pretty sure Shane guarded Roy on several occasions in the playoffs and he did a pretty good job....in fact Roy was killing Ron and this board was demanding shane be out on roy in more than one game.

When I say overrated, I don't mean Bynum overrated... But I don't think he belongs in the category of "best perimeter defenders".. a lot of people mention him in there. I think he's above average, but definitely not with the likes of Bruce Bowen, Battier, Posey, etc.

I should have said DA has been Ok on defense, but yeah he's suppose to be below average. I think they just need to rebound better as a team, they didn't do a bad job today, but i'd like to see trevor get more than 3. Hayes can do better than his 7 in almost 30 mins, as well as Landry who had only 3 in 26 mins. I dont think landry has been rebounding well so far, probably because he's not getting as many off rebounds since he's shooting mroe himself.

So was Battier a big reason why Martell Webster and Travis Outlaw shot a combined 2-11?

And loved seeing Chuck Hayes contribute some much-needed offense. Eight big points. :)
