No one has played good d except chuck. Ariza has gotten some steals and deflections that turned into transition points. Shane looks like, shane. can't really guard roy yet won't get involved offensively. When tracy comes back, they need to trady him and let chase backup tracy and trevor.

durvasa i'm still pretty sure Shane did a decent job on Roy in the playoffs, i remember him switching over on Roy for certain stretches because i actually went through tape of it for one game when a poster claimed Roy was scoring all over Shane. Turned out he was scoring on Ron and shane limited him to tough jumpers and far less point/lower FG%.

But i think the idea here is to shut down everyone else, especially outlaw who can go off if he gets hot, and let Roy do his damage. It's how they won the series.

I don't mean to detract from Battier. I just feel a few more minutes of rest might do him some good, during the game itself (getting arch on his shot, defending, making hustle plays) and over the long haul. Did anyone else see him get up and massage his high hamstring? I'd spell him with Budinger a little more. Bud's our future, and could develop into a steady player this year.

It's easy to underestimate the impact Yao has on rebounding. He's a 7'6, and even if he doesn't dominate the glass he forces the other team to put their attention on him. That frees up our other players to swoop in for the loose ball.

But why would they not put Shane on Roy, but they have him guard Kobe?

Man if Chuck can continue to average 8 Ppg - we're going to the finals. ;)

Here's a more similar one, a contested shot from McGrady.

didn't ron guard Kobe some as well? I'm pretty sure they switched throughout against both Roy and Kobe. I'm not sure if it was game to game or within a game, but I know i looked at tape on more thna one occasion and Shane was on Roy a significant amount of time. To answer you're question though, i think they feel Roy is just going to score, he's not going to create anything. so let him have his 30, shut everyone else out, maybe Aldridge gets his too. But Kobe, you let him get his, and that's 30 pts and several passes for easy buckets and then everyone else starts getting into the game, so it's more important to contain him as much as humanly possible and just keep someone in front at all times.

What exactly happened at the end? I stopped watching when we were up 107-96 I believe because the stream went dead.

Our team rebounding has been very good in the first three games. We're not getting high individual numbers, except Scola in Golden State, but we have a bunch of guys grabbing five or six a game, and almost every player is grabbing atleast two a game. A real team effort.

i dont think they were ever up 107-96? I think Brooks 3 gave them 107, and portland had 98, so it was 104-98 probably. But they had two bad posessions late where they didnt score and portland did.

This is tru and what I've said. People want to link the shane as the reason why the rockets have been a good defense, but I've said before, its Yao. This team minus yao and deke is why they're poor now. Even when the 6ft wesley was starting and that francis group of player with jvg for a yr, the rockets were a good defensive team. That's why I wish they can get camby for shane and cook.

If Brooks isn't as good when he doesn't have the ball in his hands, then what happens when T-Mac returns. Tracy will obviously take over the playmaking role as he's infinitely better than Brooks in that category. Then the Lowry should start campaign will grow even further. Lowry's defense is a lot better than Brooks, and is way better at drawing fouls, which not only generates free throws but gets their bigs in foul trouble.

watched a fun game in the gym, had a few drinks with friends before going home... a great halloween for me. :)

to me the main difference b/w tonight and the loss in rose garden is rebounding. haven't read the stats, but i bet our reb diff. tonight was within 10 (unlike last time, a terrible -20 which is too big to cover up).

the refs were still clueless at times. towards the end of the game, roy fouled ab (probably intentionally, too) and they called a jump ball.

that's like 5 anti-shane comments in this thread, that's a record even for you, we get it man :)

And for the record I always linked Chuck, Battier, and Deke evenly as to why our D was so good after JVG left. Take away those 3 and even with Yao in there we're not as good defensively. It's a collective effort, always has. Right now it's more about lack of size than Yao himself though.
