in the playoffs, the winner is usually the aggressor. yes, you shouldn't be overly aggressive in terms of bumbling down the court into the paint willy nilly. being aggressively means attacking the paitn consistently, don't settle for jump shots or fallaways, when you have shots near the basket, go hard and try to dunk. when you do those things, the refs will "reward" you with calls. every game you basically hear from the commentators, "refs usually award the player who is aggressive" or "the team that is most aggressive will win the game." hell, bill and clyde drexler say that EVERY game. what did they call odom and gasol after the championship series v. the celtics? soft like charmin.
I call that bulll****.it applies to EVERY player EXCEPT YAO. Time after time Yao gets called offensive fouls or lose ball fouls if he becomes a little bit aggressive. He can be aggressive, but he can't push people, can't hold people, can't grab people, while opponents can do all those to him
The real problem is: Yao can't do the samething to opponent, even if opponent is a big man. He can't even do that to Shaq.
In the Yao vs Dwight Howard debate, many say Yao is the better center because he outplays Dwight head to head. With that logic, does that mean Al Jefferson is better than Yao and the best center in the league? Yao didn't play badly, but Jefferson clearly won the battle between centers. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=281220016 Absolutely SHOCKING - Jefferson dunked on Yao twice and they both happened to be on the game highlights. At least they got 1 Yao highlight in there with his clutch 1 handed shot. The AP recap seemed a little overly negative on Yao, but it is what it is.
Is that the reason Yao got called offensive fouls for all those floppings?Refs treats Yao differently from other big men. If he gets what he takes against other big men, there won't be that much complaints.
Both Jefferson and Howard were single covered while Yao gets double teamed more often. And both Howard and Jefferson gets favorable calls over Yao.
Odom and Gasol are not strong enough in the paint, but Yao is different. At least Laker, together with Celtic and Cav, get more whistles than most of other teams. Spurts also get good treatments from the refs. Jazz only got their home court whistles. Rocket is getting their home court whistles this year only. TMac generally got many calls previously, but no call this year. Fortunately Yao got some calls in home court game. You can explain it with aggressiveness or something, but it is not so simple.
Who was Howard/Jefferson single covered by? Yao. We have no business doubling Howard because he doesn't have a lot of offensive moves, plus Orlando has tons of three point shooters we have to cover. We didn't want to double Jefferson for a similar reason.
Go ahead and say it then. Say Yao is the better center than Howard, you can do it. You've already said Jefferson is better than Yao. Hypocrite.
Wow...just wow. You are generally one of the most informed and level headed posters in this board, but what kind of stupid statement is that? That's the kind of post I would expect from Mr. Pink We would win by 30 pts with Marcus Camby? Really? So you're saying the guy who was so overrated our resident nuggets fan didn't protest when he got traded for a 2nd round draft pick is better than Yao Ming? Well why don't we trade for Camby then, surely that will make us win by 30 pts every night? Or better yet, why don't you go watch some Clipper games and see how that Camby worked out Yep with Marcus Camby we would definitely win by 30 pts....if you're the Timberwolves Our frontcourt = 16 fouls Their frontcourt= 3 fouls Yao didn't even get 1 ft the entire freakin' game. Yep, definitely no bias there Still good win! My guess is the snowstorm forced the Minnessotta peepz to get the dregs/overly homeristic refs out to officiate the game. Expect our next game to be officiated better. When will Rafer be back? He's someone who always plays well when he has competition breathing down his neck so I'm hoping he'll be in super-rafer mode when he gets back
the magic # here is 1. how did Al get only one pf called on him when he guarded yao the whole night? i really don't care. but you gotta admit those no call were b.s. and that flop call was just b.s. does yao have to b**** slap one one those refs to get some love? i know some will say play more aggressive. but a foul is a foul, isn't? but i do agree our interior d needs work. we need a good big or two before or soon after the break.
HAHA here it is haters, Jefferson had a good game, yao struggled, but who hit their shots at the end when it counted? More importantly, which team won?
