Well, if you can consistently get that open jumper, and we know Yao is hitting that at a solid clip, why not keep going to it? I mean... don't run a play to specifically set up that shot, but usually if they front Yao, Yao will go set a pick on Brooks/Wafer/whoever. They come off the pick and both guys roll to guard the guy with the ball, leaving Yao open. It doesn't even have to be the response to fronting. We could run that play just in general. And you could add on to the play. Say they contest that shot by someone rotating over to cover Yao. That guys man can cut to the basket and Yao can pass it to an open guy. With everyone moving around, someone is going to be open.
Yup, there's no doubt that if Yao can be a credible threat from 15'-17' that opens up the potential for a lot of basketball goodness on the Rockets' side. I don't know why the Rockets haven't been working on it all season.
Yao DID show us a dominant performance on the court in 1st quarter from which I sense a miracle is going to happen this playoff series, that rockets may possibly pass the first round "test" by beating Portland TB. As a fellow fans of Yao from China, I am very appriciating for what Yao has been doing for the team and rockets fans, and this victory means too much for everyone who cares about the team. Brooks killed. This is why Rox fans were in love with brooks when he was a sub. He needs to continue to attack the basket. He is an awesome free throw shooter, and he finishes well at the basket. And this would make him heat up from the outside too. But the biggest stat of the game besides Yao 25 minutes!!!, was brooks 7 assists. That is like a tony parker stat line. Keep it up brooks. DM for PRESIDENT! Imagine if we still had Rafer and Mike James. We now have 2 young guys who can both be starters of the future.
Really happy with the win! Hope the rockets don't let it get to their heads and remember our playoff series with Dallas a few years back when we won both games in their homecourt!
Well you have to have fundementals if you're slow and unathletic. No offense to Yao, he dominated tonight. Hopefully he can bring it for this entire series so we can finally get out of this stupid first round curse.
