Hey Clutch! We all love Landry and everything, but it's probably time to switch out his picture on this site w/ Kevin Martin. Just a friendly suggestion!
what I mean by that statement was that budinger is more of a 1 than a 3 in most situations. I reckon his primary position should be shooting guard as it has mostly been, but I dont quite like the idea of playing him at the 3. Hes a 1 in the sense he can make plays for others. Im a big fan of hollingers stats and just taking the assist ratio bud has a assist ratio of 12.4, which is higher than "elite" guys like caron butler and carmelo anthony. chase is an underrated playmaker by all accounts. if he wasn't 6'7 and he was something like 6'4 everyone here would be yelling for him to play point guard minutes instead of aaron brooks. also when shane and ariza comes back the SF position should be packed. chase at the 3 is just asking for defensive disaster with kmart and aaron on the court etc etc
I agree, its nice to have a true, smart playmaker on your team (martin) with ballhandles and the ability to slice through defenses and either draw fouls, score, or create for his teammates. It also helps when he can put up 30 point games on 9-13 shooting. As for brooks, I really like the guy, but more as a sg. Once in the 4th qtr, with frustration he decided to take things upon himself. Dribble dribble dribble 1 on 1 not even looking at his teammates who were begging for the ball. Finally, after not being able to go anywhere, he just chunked it up with one hand, contested, from the free throw line, and of course missed!!! WTF!!! There's something called passing bro, u don't HAVE TO shoot! Anyone else see this?
why do u keep bringin that up, as if anyone is arguing we had a chance to win, with our without battier? No one has even said that. No one is implying that. The rockets played bad defense and kept playing bad defense, the whole game. No real adjustments. You need someone on the floor who notices things, trends, and points them out on the fly. They didnt have that. I'm sure the picks were a problem, but i doubt they just picked guys all night and didnt score any other way. Sometimes you can't do anythgina bout picks, but when there's no picks and you still leave guys open? That's the problem. Guys aren't rotating well, not keeping an eye on their man, and therefore leaving guys open. Out of all the guys out, battier is the best at being where he should be on defense. If one guy is consistently getting tot he right spots like that it limits the decision making others are reponsible for. Two guys open, battier rotates to one immediately, then you know only one is left and you need to get him. As oppose to two young defenders looking around or at each other, asking what's going on or who got him, by the time they click and commit it's too late. Sure the difference between those scenarios is about 2 seconds, but that's the difference between a contested shot and an open one. I'm looking at a play now where Okur drove on scola, bet him to the paint, but he's contained. Bud and brooks are out on the perimter on their men, for some reason bud decides to collapse down when okur drove, but bud and the drive are on opposite sides of the court. So when okur should have been stopped where no where to pass, he now has bud's man wide open, passes to him, bud turns back to his man AND brooks rotates over to that same man. You got two rockets chasing one guy. Well all that guy has to do now is pass to wide open Deron at the top. Swish. 2 mistakes in one play for bud, shouldnt have collapsed down and then should have recognized brooks was closer to roating over to his man and he should have gone back to cover deron. All it took was one guy getting stuck between point A and B to screw up that defensive posession. Comprende?
RV6, They made lots of adjustments, tried numerous different combinations. None of them worked. They even tried zone.... Come on, there are 2 teams on the floor, sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other guys for a job well done. DD
[rquoter]“Just a very poor defensive effort,” Rockets coach Rick Adelman said. “They just took it to us. We weren’t playing people. We knew exactly what they were going to do, and we weren’t playing them. We just offered no resistance at all.”[/rquoter] That's going to happen when you're playing a lot of young players, new players trying to learn eachother, and players who are physically outmatched by their opponent. The Jazz are a good team, but the Rockets stunk and I don't see the point in trying to excuse it.
I still think he's not a good enough ball handler to handle the one or the two full time. That assist ratio is misleading for someone like bud because it doesnt differentiate between making the right pass, which becomes an assist, and actually directing the offense, and then making the pass that becomes an assist. That's why you got guys like kidd and Oberto among the top 5 in assist ratios. Kidd does it like point guards do (directing first) and oberto does it like Bud, by just making the right pass. Both are important within an offense, but putting Bud at the one is asking him to not just make a good pass, but so much more. Cant see him doing well in that situation. And as for the defensive disaster, that's why you bring bud off the bench, so he's not playing so much with aaron. He plays better with Lowry anyway. Next year i dont think this will be a problem for morey if he gets the PF he wants. I think either battier, brooks, or budinger will be included in a package like that.
What?? I understand u not liking him at the 3 but did u just call him a point guard?? Sure he's SOMEWHAT of an underrated playmaker kind of like u said, but a point guard!? No way, I see how ur thinking, but he's never playing the 1.
i tipped my hat to utah when i said i didnt expect a win against them. I know how good they are and can be, they showed it, but they're not 133 pt good either.
No true, but sometimes there are games where everything clicks, didn't Battier hit 6 of 6 3pters against Milwaukee? DD
yes, but utah had like 8 of those battiers last night. When one guy is clicking like that it just happens. when multiple guys are clicking like that, the opposing defense allowed it to happen. I dont think that's taking anythign away from utah's offense. A 3 pointer doesnt become a layup because the defense leaves you open. They still need to hit the shots and they did. Rockets left the door open, Utah stepped through it. Props to them for stepping through it over and over and over again.
We were doing good with JT, Anderson, Temple, Budinger and Jeffries in the 2nd quarter. Can't imagine why in the 3rd quarter Adleman felt it necessary to stick with the starters while they were getting creamed.
JT is horrible, the guy doesn't know where to go, his jump shot is hideous and he just looks lost out there. Once Trevor is healthy he needs a lot more D league seasoning. DD
Jt is aight, i like his skillset but he just isn't nba ready yet. A bit more time in the d league and he could be a real contributor for us.. possibly a von wafer #2 without the shot?? Idk, lets wait and see.. I really like garret temple, best fast break player on our team behind Martin.. btw I like them both in the backcourt together offensively, kmart and gt
Yes we will be better with the return of battier and ariza, and yes next year it will help to have yao back. But I still see a steady decline of defense for the team. Battier and Ariza are the only two players we have who I trust to play even decent one on one defense. I don't think our situation is as dire as it might seem from last nights results but we must accept the fact that many of our players are defensive liabilities. I really like the flashes I am seeing from both JT's. They are both large physical guards who have serious upside. Taylor especially last night showed really good body control while trying to score on the move. If both continue develop the rockets might have found gold. Neither is ready yet but they show promise.
His skillset? That is what sucks about him. He is not good at all in moving without the ball, gets lost on defense (thought that seems to be a common team thing) and never passes the ball. Not to mention his jumpshot is ugly. He looked ok in the 2nd quarter but he made some bad shots...he is like the guy at the gym that gets a couple of lucky shots and if you are on his team you go "Crap, now he thinks he is hot"....and invariably sucks the rest of the game jacking up bad shot after bad shot. DD
Of course he(JT) has bumps and issues. If he didn't he would not have lasted to the second round. But there is something there that could be developed. I would say that the odds are still against him developing into a quality NBA player, but I see encouraging signs that CBUD might not be the only diamond in the rough Daryl found in last years draft
