You want real talk.....Rick Adelman left Hill on Randolph one on one. That is not smart, no check that...it is STUPID.....double team him late in the game, make them beat you over the top. Oh well...no playoffs anyway, play the young guys..... DD
Our defense to hold off other teams squads from coming back on us isnt working. At some point we should just outscore them if we have the lead. Just see if they can outshoot us instead of trying to play matchups and defense to not lose the game. Defense hasnt worked late.
You are right about that too. Adelman misses that also. Brooks does horrible when you set screens for him. That just brings another defender to him and he gets desperate and causes him turnovers. He needs more one on one and isolations like you suggested late in games. I dont know why they havent figured this out or seen this?
I agree with that, but also this can't be a Steve Francis watch him work then wait team. His passes need to be sharper and he needs to be a little more sure of what he's doing.
did y'all actually watch the game, or are y'all also just b****ing autobots? the memphis momentum? our lead was at it's biggest of the 4th quarter when lowry came in. then we were -8 in his 3 minutes of court time. i'm used to people b****ing in hindshight about the plainly obvious things the coach should have done (why was so and so in there while he was missing because it was obvious he was going to miss before he shot, why was that defensive guy in there when we needed to score, why was that offensive player in there when we needed stops, etc), but you rarely see people b**** about doing things that in hindsight actually blew up in our face. for whatever brooks wasn't doing, lowry certainly didn't help things. and if jeffries played, everyone would be b****ing that adelman is playing old guys who aren't going to be here after this year instead of developing the young talent. that's why he can't win with this roster. everyone thinks about 9 different guys should be on the court at any given moment for any variety of reasons. while i actually agree with DD that brooks should be in games late if no one is going to run the offense, if he is in, then people will b**** that lowry isn't in the game. and if lowry is in, then why isn't brooks, our only shot creator, not in. and if scola is in and scoring but giving up points, why isn't hayes or patterson in for defense. and if hayes is in but not scoring, then obviously why didn't we just play scola. this is our roster. role players with weaknesses and expiring contracts. someone has to play and sometimes they suck.
and like Clutch said, i'm really only interested in what Morey does to build this team. which i guess makes it weird that i even read game threads/post-game threads to read and reply to b****ing about largely irrelevant outcomes. this roster's upside potential would be taking some team to 6 games in the 1st round. Morey knows this as well as anyone. i have faith that we are in good hands to fix things. morey has shown he knows how to look at every option, he doesn't make stupid trades just to make them, he know how the cap works, he knows how to not clog that cap up with bad contracts, he knows how to be patient to wait for his moment to strike, he knows how to negotiate (contracts and trades), and he's got a good understanding of stats and the game. that doesn't mean everything will work out. a lot of being a GM (or more than most want to admit) is luck. sometimes guys get injured, sometimes free agents only want to play in new york, sometimes there's just nothing available and you have to bide your time. that sucks but that's how it goes. i would rather be a perennial 40 win team and wait to hit a home run to try and become a 55-60 win contender than get impatient and just hit a double to become a 48-52 win 2nd round team and mess up all of our future flexibility. the name of the game is championships, not slight improvements. and hopefully this season doesn't frustrate the front office or adelman and he sticks around for a while because he clearly knows how to get teams to play hard and work together and that's about 90% of coaching and his 1st 3 years here were almost all overachieving years (certainly years 1 and 3).
Lowry played horrible ? Nope.. bc unlike Brooks he still makes an impact if his shot is not falling. 8 assists to 1 turnover in 25 minutes. Lowry needs at least 30 minutes. I will be surprised if Brooks is still here after the deadline. I bet DD joins another team forum and becomes a ABOF. Lowry + 3 and AB at minus 10 tonight.
He's a good post defender, I agree... maybe it would have helped. But Adelman brought him in for a key defensive stop late on David West against the Hornets and West promptly took him from 17-feet out and threw down a merciless slam. I may be wrong, but I just don't view Jeffries playing or not playing as the key to a win/loss. It's just kind of indicative of the sad state of things because he's not likely to be on the team past February 24th.
So, how did Conley look when the awesome defender Kyle guarded him? Come on...Lowry got most of those assists in the first quarter when guys were hitting jump shot after jump shot and the team shot 65%.....once that stopped neither he nor AB got many....and both were pretty bad on D. Seriously, I like AB and Kyle, but I think the Lowry folks are blinded to the truth..... At least I can be critical of AB....lol..... And you guys are 100% missing the point...it is not about AB, it is about needing his skillset on the floor to create a good shot late......PERIOD.... DD
Rox are now 11th in the West and if GS beats the Kings tonight we will be tied with them. With Orlando coming into town tomorrow, we could be looking at 12th in the West with the Clippers on our tail or 11th with GS still and LA within a couple games.
Yep Conley with the beastly 17 and 5!! Clearly AB's inconsistent and poor play is Adelman's fault. He hasn't regressed. He's actually playing better than last season. Only in DD-land.
I said AB played poorly, but just like you didn't give up on Kyle when he stunk early in the year coming back from injury, I am not giving up on AB, he proved his worth over 82 games last year.... I am more worried about Adelman's lack of double teaming a hot player late than I am about AB or Kyle...or blaming someone on the team. The coach is not helping them win much these days. DD
How many games does he need ? One season doesnt define a career. This is AB's contract year and he looks like he's just going through the motions. The jury is still out on both players but we all know which player Morey would flip. Adelman has his faults. It was not playing Martin and Lowry enough tonight.
Yeah I rmbr that slam and holding my head down when it happened. But jeffries was playing great d that game and got a great run down block.. but hill just wasn't cutting it and randolph was just shooting over Hayes.. we really could have used jeffries height..but I agree with u about this season being pointless..wins and losses don't matter anymore this season is lost..
Well he needs more than the 20 or so he has played...lol....I mean come on.....and his role is vastly different off the bench...you want last season's AB? Start him.....and he will be back....he needs time to get used to playing off the bench and the bench guys to get used to playing with him..... DD
Partly agree with you, but at the same time, our bench gave us no reason to win tonight. 10 of 29 or something... Battier, Martin, Scola and Hayes had great night. Bench ruined it
Not in the 4th quarter when Memphis tightende up it's defense, they had a great first half and part of the 3rd quarter, then nutted it up. DD
They played like for 3 minutes and when the bench made it a close game... and Hayes was out because of foul trouble.
Lets just give him half the season then. Simply inserting him into the lineup isn't going to fix his glaring decencies on the court. Plus, Lowry can easily play 35 mins a game. We'll know where this franchise is with Brooks soon enough.
