This. If he wants to foul he would be yelling Lee all the time, we would see a facepalm after the shot, etc.

It's on him. Great day-to-day coach, great developing chemistry, great making his teams improve during a season, taking the best of his players... terrible in game coach.

Certainly, he has never been known for his competitiveness... until he went to Houston. Then poeple in Houston talk all the time about his competitiveness, his dirty work, hustle... ¿?

We're seeing all season his defensive attitude.

He told him to foul, the team failed, Rick did his job......I was mad at first but got confirmation that they were told they just didn't do it.

why is it that every time we play a good team with a superstar player like rose whos problems from 3pt land are widely publicized, they go off on us from 3? in the two games against chicago rose made 4 threes in each.

That is not where my confirmation came from, mine was in a private conversation with someone who would know.

Rose has worked on his three point shooting this past summer and is now a decent three point shooter. He's shooting .328 from threes before tonight's game -- so what he did was not a fluke.

DD, where do you get he told lee to foul? I only saw the tweet where Lee said he was trying to foul.

If RA is holding his hands up like that he's basically saying "keep your hands up to avoid the foul on the shot", which tells me he probably didn't say to strictly foul, but to only foul at the last second if they could do it before he shot....so Lee was probably given the option to and he wanted to do it, but didnt get to him in time.

    Oh! Ok then ...

Obviously they are aware of their mistake and will try to make amends. Viewing the video, it appears that the foul was not ordered. Plus we've seen similar situations in the past.

I just communicated in private with someone who knows. They were told to foul, just not do it too early, and they ignored it.

Numerous chances to foul, most by Lee, but Miller could have as well.....

This one was completely on the players, they had their instructions and failed to do it.

View the video again and look at Rick Adelman with his hands up in a "What are you guys doing" manner.

He told them to foul, they did not do it on their own.....

Wow, this loss stings worse than any other this season....

We shot ourselves in the foot...missed free throws down the stretch, and could not foul rose or even Noah...

    Sorry, but, no.

"They say, they say...". Lee is saying also that he tried to foul, and we know it's just not true.

If coach orders to foul, he does it already on the free throws (included the "when" to do it), and all the team would know it and would yell Lee to foul Rose. We see no sign of repentance on the part of any player/coach after the shot. Nobody tried to foul, nobody said Lee to foul, Lee didn't foul.

This. And this is not homerism or misplaced optimism either.

"ignored" is a harsh word to use, especially when Adelman didnt seem to to make it an order. He said it was hard to communicate it, which tells me he didnt make it clear enough before the play. If they knew that was the only option, then RA wouldnt feel the need to communicate it during the play.

Looking at it a third time, i see RA called Lee over while Miller shot his first freebie...can't tell what he told him, looks like defensive instructions, but then miller missed as they ended their talk. After that they didn't talk again, so perhaps that's why RA said it was hard to communicate that to him. At that point it could have been a 2, 3, or 4 pt game. I think they didn't cover all possibilities and by the time Miller made his second, there was no time to clearly let them know to foul. RA clearly wasn't upset as they chased him around, so i don't believe it was a clear order to them. Look at his hands, they don't move. He has them up, no other movement, no jumping, nothing. Might as well been saying the field goal ws good.

I was at this game...I've been to some heartbreaking Rockets playoff games in the past, but that Rose shot was painful.

I did get Brad Miller's headband though!

No, trade him. Even if he makes some shots he's still soft.

Bring in somebody with balls, please.

That was a tough one. Another game lost at the free throw line. Then again, had we won, Chicago could've said the same thing..

    Salt in the wound....

johnhollinger Derrick Rose is shooting 28.8% on 3s against the other 28 teams this year, and 27.0% for his career. In two games vs. Houston he's 8-for-11

All the assistant coaches would be yelling when to foul. As I said, no sign of repentance on the part of anyone. On the other hand, the assistant coaches have something to say at those situations, sometimes coach can't be at everything. This time it was an easy decision (still not taken), but it's not the first time that they seem to lack comunication.

That said, end, and sorry if I've been too tiresome, but I'd rather lose for lack of talent than lose for being naive and dumb.

Next game Detroit, and hopefully with Yao.
