ariza took 8 shots the entire game......he can be a great contributor on a great team....on a mediocre team like the rockets, he's nothing, as we will see this year.
the rockets would have been better off going after iverson...just letting him run the team until mcgrady get back and then use iverson as trade bait wait mcgrady get back established
A lot of posters in this thread seem to have forgotten that we're keeping the core of this team around Yao, aka keeping the players who play off Yao the best. There's no better superstars available on the market that we can get for Yao so any talk of trading pieces only makes sense if the incoming players fit better with Yao than the outgoing players.
we took the lakers to 7 without yao...i just want the rockets to put a quality product on the floor...until then i will not go to any rockets games...i'll just sit back and watch from home
Wafer averaged 17.9 points per 36 minutes last season. Aside from 3 scrubs who combined to play like 30 minutes all season, Michael Beasley was the only rookie to average more than that, and Wafer's TS% and TOV% were both better than Beasley's. In fact, only 5 other rookies in the past 9 seasons have averaged 17.9 points per 36 minutes (while playing at least 200 total minutes): Durant, C.Frye, B.Gordon, Carmelo, and Lebron. Wafer had a higher TS% and lower TOV% than each one of them, as well. The odds of a 2nd round pick giving us the kind of production and efficiency that Wafer gave us are slim, to say the least.
Preach on PREACHER !!!!! But, you can't blame the Rockets nor Von for the $5 million a year deal. The Rockets could have really used him this year, but the price tag was too high...and Von should take that money. However a year of starting Battier and Ariza is scary. DD
The star of a team normally gets paid something like $9 or $10 million dollars every season. Perhaps even $15-$20 million? Deal with your own overly inflated expectations and appreciate what the guy actually DOES do!
Did you know of a young star that was available for the MLE for the next 5 years? Get real, smoothie_king.
All the championship teams are set in their roster. Iverson wouldn't work for a rebuilding team for the next 5 years. He's on the wrong side of 34.
When Mcgrady gets back things will be more balanced. First Ariza can be the natural back up to Shane or T-mac and the second unit will be faster taller and more offensive balance. I think Rick learned something last night. That line-up with brooks lowry andersen budinger landry can do some damage. Everyone can score, they gang rebound, they have active hands, and they run.
What did we even offer him though? Clearly he would have settled for less than 5 mil/yr to stay in the NBA. We probably could have kept him for like half that much, and he would have been worth the money.
I think the game against the Warriors will turn out to be a turnover fest. A whole another type of game. Both teams trying to outrun and outgun the other.
You got any proof of your statement at all? Given that the guy's been bouncing around, I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to go and finally hit pay dirt which is what Olympiacos was offering him. I don't know what we offered him, but it sounds from what I understand that the Rockets front office wasn't too eager to go after him after the Game 2 incident, just as they were apparently not too interested in Artest after the pre-Game 7 incident.
