I think its more of finally arriving than anything. Most of the people you're talking about giddy are probably african american. i'm in that boat, but i think its probably more for hope than anything. Obama winning the election fair and square helps to ease some of the mental plights and stereotypes of african americans. Some of it also is the history of suppression that black people had to face. The plight of black people is unique unlike any other race in this country. i mean every other race came over here on their own powers and with their families, family names and place of orgin, black people didnt. There were reported over 30m africans that died and was dumped in the ocean on the way here, yet all we ever read about is the jewish holocost. African americans werent considered full humans, couldnt vote, were hung, beat and terrorized and killed, but the killers were given free passes. The emmitt tills to the mlk's. Just like black people werent happy for oj when he got off, they were happy that finally a black man got off because he had money. I think alot of black people are giddy because for all the illegal traffic stops, for all the purse clinching in the elevator, for all the klan rides in the deep south, the 2nd hand books they had to read out of and all the slain leaders in the the civil rights era, someone that looks like them is now the most powerful man in the world again. Just like africa had gone through 24 dynasties and 4 golden ages before critical thinking in europe, a african is once again the man. I think obama is goignto try to fix the issues of the united states, not the issues of just african americans.
Someone mentioned moving to Canada. How? Is it easy to get citizenship their? What's it like up there?
