The first album I learnt to play at 14 years old with my Dad's 23 year old Suzuki nylon string guitar knowing just Am Em F G C D chords, and Fade to Black being the first song I ever learned. I remember studying this song in bits and pieces to really get it, dragging the slider back and forth on RealPlayer; tinny computer speakers got worn down replaying the same thing over and over again. Absolutely love this entire album. I can hear it in my head right now. Unfortunately I've forgotten how to play the majority since then but never fade to black.

I've always enjoyed how great Matt Bellamy was on the guitar. Too bad Muse has sucked since like 2007.

 

honestly...I don't even like megadeth but Mustaine is straight up bringing that axe to a gasm.

Not all their songs are my cup of tea...but there is no denying that they are one of the most talented bands of all time. They play like a royal orchestra with technicality only matched by their individual talents. Petrucci one of the top guitarists of all time (top 5 easily), Portnoy one of the best drummers...even the bassist has to be (not too familiar with bassists).

 

Dream Theater was weighing on me for years. I knew they were good, and I thought there was a strong chance that I would like them. But when I break in a new band to the Haymitch rotation it's a pretty big commitment. So for years I knew of them and knew I would probably like them, but never took the dive.

Then one day (fairly recently, maybe 6mos ago) I saw a CD of theirs (Awake) for dirt cheap at a Half Price Books. I told myself damnit Haymitch, just do it already. So I did. And so it began.

Gotta be one of the funnest guitar songs to play. I only know a lil bit of it but play it every time I pick up my 6 stringed lady friend.

I went to this gig, August 20, 1972, at Liberty Hall. They were great. Tickets were $2.50 and $3.50:

 

Starts out playing thrash metal and then boom......straight up FUNK.

 

I pretty much wore out that cassette back in the day.

 

This one makes my balls hang low and begin to swell uncontrollably until I fight the nearest naysayer. Oftentimes it's a mirror and I kick that SOBs arse.
