I always try to read between the lines with Ford. Sometimes he does get a legitimate scoop, but most of the time he's re-packaging what he reads in newspapers. In this case though, he's purely speculating Houston. This is a good thread for reference on Rocket fans' thoughts about a Hornets-Rockets swap. It's been discussed for weeks now: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=113491 I would do it... more than likely Carney or Brewer would be available at #12. You will get a good player at 15 also. Yeah - I would do it. My hunch -- purely a guess -- is that the Rockets have several trade scenarios already in place, but all are based on so-and-so sliding and being available at #8.
I bet if someone the Hornets really covets falls to #8 (sheldon?) they'll probably be willing to give up A LOT for the pick on draft night.
Agreed. With the posibility of players sliding there is just so many scenarios here. They will have to have a plan in place though as I believe the NBA draft moves damn quickly, only 5 minutes per pick.
I would consider this trade but probably wouldnt do it if we get brewer we dont need redick we have head also at the 2 so no i wouldnt do it we need to hold firm get brewer sign james give the te for stevenson and try to pry the 10 away from seattle! Im fine with swift hayes and jho running the 4 because of the fact that my suggested roster gives us so much 1-3 depth! Yao/Deke Swift/Jho/hayes Tmac/Stevenson/Bowan Brewer/Head Mj/Alston/Foye if we can get the 10 pick!
I agree. It is definitely speculation on Ford's part. It does make some sense though, if they want O'Bryant.
Unfortunately, like Clutch said, this sounds like typical Ford speculation passed off as truth. The first paragraph is fact, while the second sounds like pure hypothetical worded to sound like he has some info. I don't think they like Brewer, contrary to conventional wisdom. Correction, I think they like him, but not enough to take straight up at the #8. I'm not giving any weight to any of Van Gundy's comments - they're all over the spectrum ("we don't need shooting", "we need shooting", "size is our biggest need") so there's no use trying to interpret any of it. He's a smart man and likely made those comments very calculated and is sitting in his desk laughing at us trying to decipher them. The hunch I have is that they don't prefer Brewer or Carney either way and know one of them will be available at 12. I think they'll wait and hope someone like Morrison, Gay, or Roy falls on draft day. If noone falls and they can't deal up, I think they'll trade down. As for the discussed trade, I would do it in a heartbeat. J.R. Smith has some serious potential, you take Carney at 12, and the best player available at 15. It's not all that far fetched either. Didn't the Hornets make a run at Stromile last summer?
we should wait till draft day if 8 comes up with bargnani or roy we pick one of them, if not, do the trade!
I really want to see how the first 7 picks turn out before we deal the #8. Right now, there are guys moving in and out of the Top 7 so there is a decent possibility that a Top 6 guy might fall to us (Roy, Gay, Thomas, etc...). If one of those guys fall, I would keep the pick. But #8 for JR Smith + #12 would be pretty tempting IMO.
From Real GM: Failed Scenario Due to Houston and New Orleans being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston and New Orleans had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did not happen here (only Houston met the condition). This trade does not satisfy the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ This just reflects a JR Smith for Stro swap. I'm not sure how the draft picks would figure into the numbers. I think giving up Stro would be too much. We need something back from them. Afterall, as disappointing as he has been, Stro is a "proven" commodity. You get someting for his minutes.
I'm not that wild about JR Smith anymore. I watched a lot of film on him at mysynergysports and didn't come away impressed. He floats on the perimeter, A LOT. He even floats in transition. He's pretty much the worst case fear that most people have for Carney, an incredibly gifted player who's just content to jack up threes. Now Smith has said in an article I read that he's committed to working hard this summer and expanding his game, but who knows how that will turn out. But getting those draft picks does intrigue me. Picking up Smith, and a guard in Redick, Ager, or Sefolasha along with a big man like Simmons, Johnson or Sene would be a pretty nice haul.
The Hornets only have 32 mill in committed salary for next season. I think the trade checker is wrong.
i wonder if teams look at having two mid or late 1st rounders as a disadvantage in this draft? that is they can pick up someone better and proven at the same cost in free agency?
