Jumpman it would have been different if Boozer was a legit free agent and the Cavs undervalued him. The guy lied to the GM, the owner and his teammates, basically agreed to a deal after talking the ownership into opting him out of his contract, and then stabbed the organization in the back. I've lost all respect for Boozer. Utah isn't wrong in this at all. Cleveland might be at fault for taking a guy at his word. You can bet that Boozer's greedy tactics will change contract negotiations for all teams in the future.
Actually, all it really proves is that a lot of teams (like Utah) had a LOT of money to throw around. It is yet to be seen if Boozer is any good in a much more power-forward driven conference, or if last year was just an anomaly period.
Finally! No one seems to get we upgraded our PF spot. 17 and 7 versus 6 and 6? Cato could block shots but imo he was a poor defender.
sorry about the multiple posts/edits earlier. anyway, maybe this article will help you understand the consequences of dealing with people this way.... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/ian_thomsen/07/12/boozer.fallout/index.html
FYI: Report has Knicks after Ilguskas: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/211350p-182056c.html Sorry if this has been posted already, there are too many threads revolving around trades/free agents...
Rocks, If he lied the Cavs should be given the T-Wolves/Joe Smith treatment, maybe not as drastic because this was a verbal/hand shake agreement instead of the Wolves signed agreement. If he lied so what? Cleveland wanted him signed to a less than market value deal, they underestimated his worth to other teams, that's the only reason he's not signed to a 40 million dollar contract right now. They gambled and lost. rhadamanthus, Well, he did fine against the West last season, what probably motivated Utah the most was the 30/20 game he put up against them in a Cav win. What about the 15+/15+ game he had against the Rockets? The 20/20 game against the Mavs? 25/15 against the Lakers? The guy will be fine in the West just like undersized Elton Brand is now, the only difference will be that Brand will be sitting at home during the playoffs and Boozer won't.
Exactly, McInnis is going nowhere. Unfortunate, because I would love to have him. If I were the cavs, I would find a way to create space to match the offer of the Jazz. Then, whenever a good opportunity arose, I would ship Boozer's ass to the Clippers, Raptors, or Hawks, or whatever team showed the least promise at the time the trade went down. It would send a message to boozer and the rest of the scum bag agents that drive the cost of decent seats at a game to $100 a pop. (I know....owners and players are scum bags too.) That said, who the hell would turn down an extra $28 million if given the opportunity? He might have a motorcycle wreck tomorrow that could end his career.
That just says that Boozer backed off his word, that's already a given, still the 29 million extra he gets from Utah is way too much to run away from.
You guys are obsessed with Juwan's numbers. I would compare this guy to Cedric Ceballos since he scores most of his points on garbage time buckets. Think about it, the Magic were the WORST team last year and the Wizards with Juwan were worse than the WNBA. They didn't play competitive basketball when they are getting trampled. Juwan averages: 16-17pts a game when the Magic lose Their losses are by 12pts (average). Big Z has a mighty hook but he would occupy the same block that Yao needs....also, he can't play defense (he missed big minutes during the middle games of the season cause Silias didn't like 'Z on 'D!) I know you hate Howard, but you may get more CF.net support if you look to a non-lottery team for a trading partner (specifically, one that has not just been punked by the Jazz)
actually, those are career averages people are using... they just happen to also be last years' numbers (sounds like consistency to me)
Looks like Cleveland is still hoping to get Boozer without having to make a trade. They are offering him a one year five million dollar contract to redeem himself. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/writers/ian_thomsen/07/12/boozer.fallout/index.html
Juwon Howard puts up some of the least impactful 17 points and 8 rebounds in the NBA, those numbers are more times than not insignificant to the outcome of the game. That's probably the point Tinman is trying to make...
Wow. That's an interesting read. So there's fallout already from the broken promises of Boozer and his agent. That's an interesting offer by Cleveland. They can do that? Stay tuned!
We can trade them to the Bucks for Damon Jones and Tonic Kukoc. or can we send them to the Knicks, they always want power forwards. Can you imagine Vin Baker and Juwan on the same team? All that would be missing is Shawn Kemp.
and T-mac put up the least meaningful 30 pts per game too... that is not the point, the point was that tinman is a Howard-hater and some of us believe we are better at the 4 than last year (even if we will have the second best PF on the court most nights!)
is there any way to do a sign and trade with Jeff McGinnis. I would love to use the TE instead of doing nothing with it ... What is the status of McGinnis anyway, he is still a free agent or did he sign already ? if he is still a free agent, we could easily do a sign and trade with Cleveland. They interested in 1 of our 3 PF's .. well worth the price for a PG of McGinnis's ability
If that is points off of garbage time then how do you explain how he averaged 18ppg and 7rpg a game for Dallas a couple of years ago? hmmmm.
Thanks Jumpman! Look at the stats, Juwan scores 16 against the Mavericks, while the Mavericks win by 30 pts is a nice example of garbage points. I hope Juwan can score points against bench players. I hope if we keep Juwan and we are up by 20pts on someone Juwan can manage to score his 17 a game against a rookie or CBA waiver wire player. Also about Mo Taylor, I noticed he played VERY WELL in the playoffs against the Lakers. He was consistent and he amazingly got some boards. He still has upside. Weatherspoon needs to cut the carbs.
Wrong, the Cavs/T-Wolves situation are COMPLETELY different issues. The handshake agreement with the Wolves was illegal. The Cavs verballed deal WAS legal. What the Cavs did is no different then what Phoenix did with Steve Nash. The difference is that Boozer broke the agreement. Why would you punish the Cavs for something that didn't break league rules? The bottomline is that he verballed a deal with the Cavs, he broke the deal, he's a liar and backstabber. I hope he enjoys his money because I'm sure a lot of players are going to be ticked off at him once the league starts adjusting negotiations because of his tactics.
