That's what I was thinking. Brian Grant type PF. I didn't see James Thomas at University of Texas. But others here have. He seems interesting. As long as he brings the hustle and rebounds. He could be great asset off our bench.

Attitude problems (as mentioned earlier in the thread)

I would definitely bring him in for a quick "chat" to see where his head is at.

You're talking about a guy who has already shown that he can play in the NBA, and who would be able to come on in and plug a significant weakness of the team (rebounding). Not a bad shot-blocker, and has great size. If he's not a head case...

Is Alton Ford worth another look?

    Corie Blount scares me....

James Thomas was hurt all last year with a variety of nagging injuries while at UT(this coming from a diehard UT supporter who finished school there last May). But he is a tenacious rebounder/energy guy who I wouldn't be shocked to stick on an NBA team's bench for quite awhile. Thomas was instrumental in UT's run to the Final Four in 2003 and even his freshman year made a big impact in rebounding/toughness on the interior. I think using an injury plagued senior year as judgment on his ability is a mistake.

I would waive Barrett for him in a heartbeat. It's not like you have something to lose, and the Rockets sure could use a tenacious rebounder who hustles his butt off night in/night out(this was true even before Howard's injury).

I said it when Rudy was still coaching. Let Cato play some 4 while Yao is in the game. It proved to be successful when JVG did it. I'll say it now. We can put Cookie Monster in there in crucial moments of the game. Deke has proven that he still has game. He can still bored and block. He even can put it in the basket once in a while. Give him a chance out there. I know the minutes might be a factor, and also no one can relieve Yao. But I'm only talking about a crucial moments. Definately not a long term deal.

    Samaki Walker, anyone?

Has been around for a while and has been a good complement player to some of the best big men around. Not sure if his injury or attitude got him his walking papers, especially with Jamison on the IL.

If it wasn't attitude problems, I think the Rockets will pick up Samaki Walker since he fits JVG desirble PF, being a physical rebounder and defender.

How about this kid? :D [IMG]

Yi Jianlian, at the official age of 17, just posted a 27-21 game in the C(hinese)BA South Conference championship game, against former NBA player Jelani McCoy .

He was once projected No.1 pick for 2005 (or 2006?) by nbadraft.net until his real age came into question and the new CBA rule forbids players under 22 to enter NBA draft. Yao once told reporters that Yi will be better than him.
