JVG should go get one of his guys :D :

    Charles Oakley
    Anthony Mason
    Charles Smith

On a serious note, I liked Braggs alot last season. Also, I don't know what Alton Ford is up to but he might be able to do more than Vin Baker.

I would like to pick up James Thomas. I watched him play at Texas and the guy is a machine. His energy level is off the charts and he just has a nose for rebounds.

I don't see how he could be any worst than Spoon or Baker. 4rpg in 12 minutes? That's not too bad.

I know its the NBDL, but he is a rookie and is the only player averaging a double-double.

i really hope they pick up james thomas. although his offensive skills are limited, his rebounding tenacity and energy level are off the charts. but even if they do pick him up, i doubt he'll ever crack the rotation with jvg.

I don't see why not. If he can rebound decently and do the things he did at Texas, I don't see JVG having any problem benching Spoon.

JVG started Braggs the time he was here and was actually pretty effective.

James Thomas is listed as 6-8, 235lbs. In comparism, Malik Rose (6-7, 245lbs), Scot Padget (6-9, 240), Mo Taylor (6-9, 255lbs) and Marcus Fizer (6-8, 260lbs).

He is not in the top ten of blocked shots per game in the NBDL top 10 list. Number 10 on that list, Kevin Owens, averages 1.0 BPG - so go figure.

In my humble opinion, James Thomas will be a redundant player. He is just as undersized as Padgy and Spoon - in part the reason why I did not include him originally.

Of course we cannot measure discipline, heart, desire, hussle, etc but that is left for CD and the scouts to determine. I would love to have someone with a little different from what we have now and we know Vinny Baker is foregone issue.

PS. As for Badiane, his season in Germany is still going on.

Thomas is a little undersized, but he has ton of energy and hussles like crazy. At worst, he doesn't work out and we let the 10-day expire. But I like what I saw when he played at Texas, big rebounder that uses his body.

Do you know Ben Wallace is only 6'9 240. Rodman was 6'8", like 215 in his prime.

Despite relatively comparable ht/wt/bmi I think there is little comparison to the physicality of Thomas versus Padget. Thomas is a strong, athletic, 235, Padget, to be nice, is not.

That said, James Thomas didn't even look like a special player at the college level his last year at Texas (though the year before he was very disruptive). So unless he was injured that last year, I can't see how he could do anything in the NBA.

I am open to the possibility Sampson, Thomas, Braggs or Ford could beat out Vin as the current 3rd PF though. The nice thing about Sampson, Thomas or Ford is they are young, so if they do impress they might be invited back next year.

We should just put an add in Ebay, "Wanted: NBA level scrub 4, potential bonuses based on team success outcomes", give'm all a try.

Does anybody know exactly why Jamal Sampson was let go by Charlotte, at 6-11 258 and extremely athletic he would be perfect for this team. He destroyed the rockets on the boards I think grabbing 11rbs in 18 minutes or so. I would love to see the rockets take a flier on this kid.

    Big Man Search

The Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen reports that the Rockets could sign James Thomas or Corie Blount to help replace injured power forward Juwan Howard.

    http://www.nba.com/nbdl/players/james_thomas.html

"Senior (2003-04): Averaged 5.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 15.6 minutes a contest. Started 18 of 33 games, battling injuries to his lower back and lower body through most of the year. "

Based on what i heard from this thread and his stats this year, he seems like a very good fit for the team. But at this time we are looking at the playoff, where experience is really important. So I would give Vin more time to prove himself. From what I heard from Sura's interview and someone's comment in Blazer game thread, Vin looks quite promising for 3rd even 2nd option as PF.

James Thomas is a monster and I think the Rockets should try to get him. He would be nice change from the different style of our PF. I like his bang 'em up mentality, and his great heart. I think hes just some of the youth we need, eventhough we are playing well we should still look to the future for example the Pistons. Even if he can't play in the postseason I still think he can make a valuable contribution until the end of the season then Juwan comes back.

Is it true that if we sign James Thomas he can play in playoff as long as we keep the 15-players quota? If so, how about let Ward retire instead? Looks like he is about to anyway. I believe Ward still has one year left in his contract, does Rockets have to pay him that money if he retires now?

Why not give Thomas a shot. Sign him to a 10 day contract and see what he can do. He cant be any worse than Baker.

They are going after James Thomas, or Corie Blount...

I hope we get Thomas, He would fit in very nicely here.
