Who was the CBA player that Bill and Van mentioned tonight? They said that he was a good rebounder and a Longhorn a few years ago.

James Thomas. He plays for Roanoke in the NBDL and he is leading the league in rebounds with about 13.2 per game.

James Thomas sounds good to me. Could be the next Reggie Evans.

    Power options
With Juwan Howard out for at least four weeks, the Rockets could look to add a power forward and still have both available for the playoffs. But they are more likely to at least see how the current rotation works before adding a free agent or a NBDL player, particularly with the maximum of 15 players under contract, including four healthy power forwards in Clarence Weatherspoon, Scott Padgett, Ryan Bowen and Vin Baker.

The players most likely to get the Rockets' attention, should they look to add another player, would likely be former University of Texas center James Thomas, now playing in the D-League, and former NBA power forward Corie Blount, a free agent. Thomas would be the more likely choice. He played nine games for the Trail Blazers this season under consecutive 10-day contracts and showed a knack for rebounding, averaging 3.9 in 12.4 minutes.

Players that were free agents or in the D-League before March 1 could be eligible for the postseason.

was mentioned during the broadcst(post game I believe) that the Rockets would be looking overseas, NBDL,or FA to get someone within the next 4-5 days...

    Badaine anyone?? ;)

no seriously....Thomas sounds very likely...just remember that when tryin to figger out who they might be looking at...that the player must have at least a little bit of defensive ability to get VG to play him...

James Thomas was a stud his Junior year at UT. But something happened during his senior year, he started to make really stupid decisions on the court [shooting when he shouldn't/fouling when he shouldn't...]. This caused choach Barnes to bench him for the rest of the season.

As a former longhorn I wanna give the guy a shot, but if he becomes a plague, then I say let him walk....but at least give him a chance.

I really liked Sampson's rebounding when the Bobcats played us this year, and it seems to me that he could also hit the outside jumper. The fact that he was cut for "attitude problems" bothers me a bit, but I figure this player won't make it to the playoffs with us anyways. And maybe Sampson will have learned his lesson and turn into a solid pickup for us.

I'd also look at Braggs - I thought he played great for us last year - and Thomas. The key is rebounding and defense - we don't necessarily need them to give us any offense.

Agree with you subtomic, Jammal Sampson can really chew up the boards and he is a prescence defensively. If it weren't for his attitude he would be a steal if the rockets picked him up.

    PF, We Still Have Options

I posted this blurb because I always thought James Thomas had an NBA body and a ferocious rebounding temperment that should have landed him on some NBA bench.

But I always thought the same thing about Chris Owens and thought he would make some noise after his injury so I guess I'm just a UT homer.

What about Badienne? Is his season completed in Germany so he'd be eligible now? That is an interesting thought.

Yea, I remember Braggs and was a little disappointed we couldn't find a roster spot for him.

It'll be interesting to see how we solve this problem.

Braggs played well, but I'd be surprised to see him back. He had good stats and played well on the court, but suddenly he was cut and an inferior Alton Ford took his place.

I wish I knew the full story there. I do remember seeing JVG go ballistic on Braggs after an outside shot he made. Weird. I had to assume it was a bad attitude. I never understood the whole deal.

One thing we learned is that the Ford experiment didn't work. Let's try somebody different, somebody whose professed mission in life is to snag all offensive boards and then immediately find Barry or James on the perimeter. :)

I have a vague recollection of one of the insiders telling us that Braggs was really into trees, and not in the conservationist sense.

Now that we know we can ADD a player AND they will be available to our Playoff roster thanks to Feigen's article, I think this thread is appropriate.

From seeing Baker last night in the Portland game and the garbage mins he got a few weeks ago, I think we can all safely say Baker is DONE. He has no lift and no quickness. He isnt going to give us the rebounding and defending we need.

I think it would be a good idea to look at adding a young body that is quick and will hustle. James Thomas sounds like a solid prospect to me. Sign him up and waive Barrett.
