i'm not so sure playing tmac at point permanently is a good idea, since it'll take a toll on him eventually. I'm sure most would agree starting pg is our weakest link in the lineup and although occassionally ward and/or lue will have their moments. But as far as on a regular basis, dont expect too much production outta our 1 spot. That probably wont be a prob if our tandem stars are clicking and hitting on their cylinders, but if they're struggling like the 1st 3 games, then we're basically dead meat. As far as counting on sura, well dont expect him to be healthy and contributing til around all star. So do we really need to trade for a better point guard, not really. We should be able to get by with ward/lue for the 1st half of season, having sura back will improve the weakness, but dont count on that happening for another couple of months.
Right. The Rockets should go after one of two different type of PGs. Either a PG that can push the ball, penetrate and makes good decisions with the basketball, or a guy who is basically another SG (with a PG mentallity) playing the 1 who is able to bring the ball up and run a break. Either way the player has to be a consistent 3 pt. shooter. So, smoothie is right on with naming guys like Jaric & A. Daniels. Neither will cost a whole lot and both fill either roll well.
Your #1 type would merit far more money than we can pay. Hell, what would you want in a PG not described in that description (well, other than defense, but I think we're just describing offensive duties here). So what we're really talking about is the #2 description. Daniels definitely does not meet that description, imho.
I would actually like to see some 'Point Forward' sets with JJax (reprising the Rodney McCray/Robert Reid role of '86).
What about the Japanese dude from Phoenix? Why didn't we pick up Bo Outlaw? Why is Magic still on TNT with Ernie, Chuck, and Kenny? Is his struggles to utter complete sentences boosting ratings? Why did ESPN drop David Aldridge for Steven A Smith?
Yea, I don't think I explained myself very well there. I meant, they either need to get a primary ball handler who has the ability to get inside the defense in the half court and can lead a break, or get a Steve Kerr-type guard who is basically another SG on the floor while TMac handles the ball carrier duties. IMO Daniels matches more of the first guy while Jaric matches more of the second.
I don't see Daniels leaving for a "winning situation" when he could get more money elsewhere. He hasn't exactly hit the jackpot with a contract already. We'd definitely have to outbid someone...after re-signing Yao and possibly boki (or another 3), that may not be possible. By the way, Jaric and Daniels don't stick the 3 incredibly well...in the last few years, Lue and Ward have been much more proficient than the ~33% for both Jaric/Daniels. I mean, they're not bad, and I know they defend well, but just a point to consider..
thats a great point. my responce to that is...ward will have to be replaced with someone, he will not be our starter of the future. we don't have a lot of money to offer to guys that would be perfect like bobby jackson next summer when he is a FA. these are the best we can get for our money. next year, center and 2guard will be set. if boki comes along, so will SF. now all we need is a shot blocking PF with a jumper (like lafrentz but not as often injured), and a PG who plays D, doesnt turn the ball over, and hits 3's. think of how big our team would be is we had jaric and lafrentz: 7'6 6'11 6'6 6'9 6'7 once jj gets replaced with a big SF like boki or a guy like radmanovic. thatsa another 4 inches. everyone can shoot, pass, play defense, rebound. there is no way that that team doesnt win the championship (esp. with sura, jj, and mo on the bench). of course the problem is getting guys like that.
