Houston is only going to be interested in somebody like Corey Brewer so they can later package his contract with Jason Terry's contract (along with one or more draft picks and/or cheap, young non-rotation guys like Clint Capela) for a big salary veteran who becomes available in January/February. And this is only if Brewer agrees to decline his 2015-16 player option. Houston would presumably throw in "draft considerations" into any such deal. Houston's trade partner would be making the deal so as to a) acquire a TPE for themselves and of course to b) save money. Here is an incomplete list of possible TPE targets, along with 2014-15 salary: Corey Brewer $4.7 mil (will need to decline 2015-16 player option) Chase Budinger $5.0 mil (will need to decline 2015-16 player option) Darrell Arthur $3.5 mil Jason Richardson $6.6 mil Chuck Hayes $6.0 mil Joel Anthony $3.8 mil These players are all overpaid and not very good. Houston probably winds up using its Lin TPE to absorb a guy from this list (or some other guy, who a) sucks and b) is in the final year of his contract and gets paid a fair amount of money this season).
Wait so you're proposing we trade Jason Terry who is the only guy on our bench besides Canaan who actually does anything for us.....
So many holes on this squad. I now see why FO would want to target a PG like Dragic or Rondo. The offense is absolutely dead without Harden. So for me, that's number 1 priority--another playmaker. Then a back-up for Dwight, then a PF better than TJones/DMo.
Stop Harden, you stop the Rockets. Dwight cannot sustain dominating a decent center on the low blow, and the other starters are too one dimensional
we badly need another consistent scorer when harden is out...we need a PF who's a threat in offense that can help Dwight...two glaring needs for our team
No way I'm trading Jason Terry. One of the ONLY guys with championship experience on our team. The position of need is a PF/C, that can rebound and hit open shots.
We need another big badly but I will say Jones has been great, you never know when he's gonna drop 30.
It DOES appear as though they are mutually exclusive commodoties though... ie, when Bev is playing, it is Terry OR Canaan who comes off the bench. Having said that, I'd keep Terry, give him some mid-season rest, and have him warm up 'down the stretch' to be ready for the playoffs. His experience there will be huge.
Bring back the Chuck Wagon. At least we would have another post defender and competent passer. Whatever helps to keep Dmo and Black off the court.
Add Tayshaun Prince to my list. He makes $7.7 mil and is getting lots of DNP-coaching decisions. Again: whoever Houston gets via this Lin TPE is ultimately packaged with Jason Terry's expiring contract (plus draft picks and/or cheap young non-rotation guys) for a good veteran player in January or February. There is the chance that Houston winds up trading this mystery player (plus picks/prospects) for somebody and instead just keeps Terry. The point here is that Terry by himself, or Tayshaun Prince/Jason Richardson/Corey Brewer/whoever (i.e., the player acquired via the Lin TPE) by himself, may not be enough, which means you'd need to package them together.
Rockets need a playmaker right now. Harden can't do everything. I can see Dragic being targeted by Morey.
