Took a look at ESPN's mock draft page today.. and it seems Phoenix has an 11% chance of acquiring the #1 pick. That is a non-trivial probability. It would be pretty scary to see the Suns with Oden or Durant. What are everyone's thoughts on this scenario?
past Oden and Durant there isn't anyone in the draft who sounds like a scary addition to the suns roster. we can only hope they don't get a lucky ping pong bounce. this does beg an interesting question. if you're phx and you've missed out on oden and durant...do you trade down? go with a sure thing? or draft for potential? there are alot of options out there, and it will be interesting to see what kind've decision the phx brass makes without colangelo at the helm.
Atlanta has the pick if it is in the top 3 this year. The best Phoenix can do with that Atlanta Pick (from JJ trade) is to get the #4 pick.
PHX has 3 first round picks. With Julian Wright almost about to declare for the draft now, I would see him as an excellent addition to the team. He would provide quality back up minutes for Marion.
Phoenix is going to have an interesting offseason, even with 3 draft picks, the best they could do is get the 4th cause Atlanta's is top 3 protected. (play the draft game enough and you'll see atlanta pop into the top 3) even with the 4th pick and the other 2 draft picks, no one is giving up oden and durant, maybe if phoenix sends some other players to that team and takes some bad contracts but that seems counter productive. Phoenix now is at a apoint where they plain have too much talent, they can't possibly play them all and high draft picks will languish on the bench
If they get pick 4-6 they could probably package it with another one of their 1st rd picks for 3rd. Meaning outside of Durant and Oden they have a shot at anybody.
Damn... If it wasn't for the salary trade restrictions I could see Phoenix doing some nasty deals. I would think Gasol, Allen, Carter, Bibby, etc would all be fair game. Although PHX does love having contributers with small contracts.
I hate Phoenix. Talk about smart roster moves. Hell, even if they get the Atlanta pick (likely), they don't need a top 3 to get an impact player. They might have the luxury of trading Marion or Stoudemire (not a happy scenario, but they're staring at major luxury tax issues otherwise). Unless they trade Diaw to a team with cap space and a high pick, something like that.
Why? I think they're happy w/ Boris and K. Thomas at PF. Hell, Diaw or K. Thomas can slide in at C and Stoudemire can drop to his natural position at PF.
That's what good management does. Teams like the Suns, Spurs and the Mavericks have become what they're today because of smart front office people making the right moves at the right time. Let's hope the Rockets will get there one of those days...
I don't see the Suns taking Durant simply because they have too many good to great players at the 2,3 & 4 spots. I do see them taking Oden to let Stoudemire go back to his natural 4 spot. Now that would be scaaarrry!
i hope they waste their 3 1st round picks like the rockets did. but knowing them they will get some quality guys...the F'ers
