The obvious problem with starting Glen Rice over James Posey: In the NBA, starting players are usually better shooters than their respective backups. Therefore, Posey, being a better defender, should start over Rice. The upside to doing this is that we maximize our defensive output against the opposing teams' best players, obviously. Also, if the opposing player starts off shooting cold, this may affect his confidence and lead to worse shooting later in the game. However, with players like Glenn Robinson and Jamal Mashburn, these guys go crazy early against Glen Rice, then Posey is forced to try to shut them down late in the game. Take away their confidence EARLY, and you will have an easier time defending them later in the game. Therefore, it is only logical that we play Posey against starting forwards tomorrow like Michael Redd. There is NO WAY that Glen Rice will be able to guard Redd, and I think he will kill us if Rice guards him. Rice would be better off trying to defend Milwaukee's backups. Also, Posey doesn't seem lost on offense, so he doesn't hurt us at all on the offensive end. Rice DEFINITELY hurts us on the defensive end. Start Posey.
Good Take Red Chocolate. Also RC Cola- good observations. I agree with both. Start Posey over Rice, and give Boki some minutes - give him a chance to at least gel with the team. I have been saying Rice was a defensive sieve - liablility since the beginning of the season. I know he has a great legend as a shooter, but when he played for Miami and Charlotte, I did not watch that much Eastern NBA basketball, and did not care that much. His glory days are behind, and we are paying him a fortune- and money over the cap- so luxury tax $ will be paid to have the Rice contract. We are stuck for one more season after this, play him coming off the bench for the 3 point threat, and pray he can keep his stroke......
I agree that Posey should be playing more but that will come as his practice time increases. I predict that Posey will get his playing time increased steadily over the next few games. While I like the idea of having Cato and Yao in the lineup at the same time, I would want Cato to get into foul trouble since all we have left Collier.
I would NOT want Cato to get into foul trouble since all we have left Collier I wish the edit function worked....
