College: Texas Christian '95 $4,900,000 Hmm...I would rather have Kurt Thomas and Allan Houston or Latrell Sprewell than Antonio Davis and a 1st round draft pick or Morris Peterson. KEEP ON DREAMIN!!! Antonio Daniels would be a great backup. Even Jeff McInnis would be better than Moochie. Or Jim Jackson. So many to list...
I cant understand the desire of some posters to go after deadbeat players, that dont fit the Rox age bracket or mentality!
We MUST get rid of Norris and find a good back-up PG! Also, EG may not be that good. If he cannot improve in 2 years, we gotta trade him.
These season its been painfully obvious that this team needs role players, not have an allstar player at every single position.
Returning Players: Francis/Moochie Mobley/Maddox Rice/Nachbar Mo/Griffin Yao/Cato TRADE PROSPECTS: Those ten players are under contract for next year. There is NO way in hell any team will take Moochie's contract, so don't even think about being able to trade him. With good showings this season, there might be a little interest in Mo or Cato, but they are most likely untradable with their contracts, too. The only truly tradable commodities that the Rockets have are Mobley (good value), Rice (expiring contract), and Griffin (potential). Yao and Francis are untouchable. I doubt if the Rockets make any trades this offseason. FREE AGENCY: Posey, Morris, Hawkins, and Collier are free agents. Collier is history. Hawkins would obviously play for the minimum, so not keeping him would be insane (given his defensive prowess). Morris could also earn a spot next year, although he might try to find another team that could offer him a larger role than the Rockets could. Posey is the big question mark. His agent will likely ask for too much money for the Rockets to keep him and stay under the luxury tax threshold. As far as outside free agents are concerned, I would REALISTICALLY like to take a long look at: Adrian Griffin (SG/SF - strong defender/utility man) Antonio Daniels (PG/SG - athletic, defensive guard) Dion Glover (SG/SF - undersized but tough-nosed swingman) Eric Piatkowski (SG - deadeye shooter) Fred Hoiberg (SG - good shooter and secondary ballhandler) Jake Voskuhl (C - tough utility big man and Houston native) Jeff Foster (PF/C - bench big man; played at Southwest Texas) Jon Barry (SG - deadeye shooter, tough defender, and team leader) Michael Curry (SG/SF - hard-nosed defender; veteran leader) All in all, I don't see any major additions for next year. I just hope this team grows together and gains valuable experience playing with one another on a consistent basis over a long period of time.
The Rox will allow this team to grow together alittle while unless they get a too good to turn down trade offer. I like the team we have considering Ming, Taylor, and Griff should be better next year. The only realistic change I would like to see is adding Odam and playing Posey as our backup sg. Ming/Cato Griff/Taylor Odam/Rice Cat/Posey Francis/Norris Morris/Boki/Madox Odam should not demand too much and is friends with several Roxs. He is a good all around player that doesn't need to score but will and can. He is long on D. His passing would take the pressure off of Francis and keeps him at the point but allows him to score more with put being blamed or feeling guilty. Posey playes his minutes at sf and sg giving us alot of options. We could go defense/ spot up/ or creative. Odam would would just have to work on this outside shooting and lose that losing feeling.
I was thinking about to make a new topic but I am also sick of the trade threads myself. No one mention Lucious Harris of nets here. He will be free agent next year and nets decided not to extend his contract last summer. Sometimes he plays as back up point guard and would be great back up to both francis and mobley. He is making about $2.6 million this year. I think he prefers to stay in NJ. Hey, at least he is much more realistic option than the other suggestions here.
Haha, then we have two guards who don't pass to each other. Let our existing team grow; they are fine. Look at how many wins we have improved from last year and the occasional brilliant show they put on against tough teams. Just trade the coaches if they cannot get us the championship with this team.
Adrian Griffin (SG/SF - strong defender/utility man) Antonio Daniels (PG/SG - athletic, defensive guard) Dion Glover (SG/SF - undersized but tough-nosed swingman) Eric Piatkowski (SG - deadeye shooter) Fred Hoiberg (SG - good shooter and secondary ballhandler) Jake Voskuhl (C - tough utility big man and Houston native) Jeff Foster (PF/C - bench big man; played at Southwest Texas) Jon Barry (SG - deadeye shooter, tough defender, and team leader) Michael Curry (SG/SF - hard-nosed defender; veteran leader) All these players would be great additions...besides Fred Hoiberg and Jeff Foster. I don't know why some people say we can't afford them...we aren't the only team with bad contracts. Glen Rice, Mobley, Cato, and Nachbar are the guys that can be traded. Morris and Hawkins will come back. Rockets love Hawkins for minimum. Morris is Terrapin.
I also think Morris and Hawkins will be back because they know the system and they will be cheap. Of the list of players listed above, the ones that interst me the most are (in no particular order) 1) Antonio Daniels (PG/SG - athletic, defensive guard) - he can be the backup 1/2 that would give the team a decent backup guard to be able to rest Steve and Cuttino. Moochie is not going to cut it and this team NEEDS a solid 3rd guard that can play both guard positions. 2) Eric Piatkowski (SG - deadeye shooter) - With Yao Ming on the floor this team needs solid outside shooting. Especially if Rice (expiring contract) is traded. Pike is a solid role player and someone that would probably work well with Yao Ming. Those are the types of role players we need! 3) Jon Barry (SG - deadeye shooter, tough defender, and team leader) - Barry would be another player like Daniels that would be able to play the 1/2 and would work well with Yao Ming. Has a good jumpshot and is a smart player. A. Griffin, Glover and Curry all look a lot like Posey/Hawkins. So I don't see any of those players here. But the 3 players I listed above I feel would be decent additions to the team and all 3 would be in the market for the MCE. This summer I am really going to be intersted to see what happens with Rice, Cato and Mobley. Any of those 3 players could be moved this summer. And whatever moves we make will probably dictate where we use the MCE. I don't think the Rockets will move Eddie Griffin unless they get someone such as an Elton Brand in return. It appears they rejected trades for R. Lewis and SAR so that tells you something!
Add John Barry in the offseason Don't resign Posey --I hate to print that but it would strap us financially and we really need to find out if Boki will be our future or not, plus I happen to like TMo maturity will affect a lot of decisions --Eddie will be better, Maddux can't possibly be worse than Moochie, Collier will no longer be on the roster, Mobley will learn to shoot better off the pick , Yao will be stronger, Eddie will be pushed by the re-emergence of MoT to improve, and you all may laugh but Terrance Morris and Joaquin Hawkins bring so much effort every time they are on the court another year of maturation, add a veteran guard off the bench we might challenge for the second best team in Texas( And no the mavericks are not the best team)
And what about a trade: Rice-Griffin for Jamison. Jamison would like to play PF but Murphy do and then he plays SF. With such a trade, the Rockets get a strong PF and a complete lineup ( Ming - Jamison - Posey ( if he resigns ) - Mobley - Francis ) and the Warriors get a big potential player and a veteran who could help Dunleavy ( their future SF ) to develop, and as well get rid of a big contract next year because Arenas-Richardson seems to become their franchise players. Excuse me for my langage, i'm a french fan of the Rox and sometimes, i speak and i write a little approximately ( it's me first post but i think not my last ).
there are lots of intersting trade proposals here, but many are pure fantasy and will never happen. face it, were stuck w/ moochie. i like the idea of odom comming over, as he CAN actually handle he ball and take some pressure of steve. but if we get him than we will probably be saying adios to posey or cat. im one of the rare people around here who actually likes cat and doesnt want to see him traded. he is a solid SG and above average defender. add odom to what we already have and our lineup looks pretty dang deep and solid... francis/moochie/maddox cat/posey/hawkins odom/rice/nachbar griffin/mo-t/t-mo yao/cato
I believe that Odom is a restricted FA. That means that whatever we offer him (which is only the MCE) the Clippers could (and WOULD) match that offer to keep him. I think the only way to get Odom (and Brand) is in a "sign and trade" type of deal. The Clippers will probably lose both players for nothing but at the same token will probably not trade either players since they have their head in the sand. Odom would be great on the Rockets as it would free up Francis from distributing the basketball and at the same time Francis could still play the PG role. The problems is, is that I don't see any way to get Odom. Who are we going to sign and trade to get Odom? The only way the Clippers trade him is if they are convinced that he will walk and they will get nothin for him. But like I said above, they act like they will stay and have their head in the sand about it.
