Those days are long over (unbalanced schedule based on year before). Your schedule is FIXED for the entire division before the year even starts... except for 2 games (which are based on your record). This year, those two games for the Texans are the Dolphins and the Raiders... two teams they seem to play (and beat) every year thanks to the "easy" schedule. And alas, no playoff apperances.
For instance, I already know who the Texans will play for 14 out of the 16 games next year... the only thing I don't know is who they'll play 5 games at home against: Titans (home and away) Jags (home and away) Indy (home and away) Jets Patriots Dolphins Bills 49ers Rams Seahawks Saints And, you can add the Raiders/Chiefs and Bengals/Browns to close out the schedule... as some combination of those 4 teams will be in last place in the other divisions (not much difference between all of those teams... none of them are going the "right" direction).
