They won't just cut Moochie. He has a guaranteed contract. If they have more than 12 players under contract. They'll just put someone on the IR list. Each team can have up to 15 players on their roster. The signing of Griffin probably means that Hawkins won't stay. I hope they resign him. I like Hawk. At least put him on the IR as insurance. I heard that Griffin is injury prone.
Popeye is old (~10 year vet), and WAS a decent player back in the day when the Rocks were winning championships, and the Mavs were winning the lottery...8-10 yrs ago. He's just not the kind of player we need (nor is he capable of)taking valuable minutes away from Eddie and MoT... Plus, he looks like Sloth from Goonies ('Babee Rufff?')...Of course, I'd never tell him that to his face...Mr Jones. Plus we'd have to pay him the 10yr vet minimum which is upwards of $1,030,000. I guess what I'm saying is that there's better VALUE out there in the FA market...Heck, if we're gonna bring in a tough vet PF, let's get Oakley.
Good points, I forgot to realize that he's already been around for ten years. Yeah, 1 mill is probably too much for his services...Oakley would indeed be better, even though he's been around for ages. I guess I've just always taken a special liking for Popeye. I remember many years back a friend of mine collected his basketball cards just for fun and whenever we got bored, we would take out his stack and just flip through those cards, making jokes during our pauses between all the hysterical laughter. Good times.
This means somebody is on the block. We can't have 3 PFs in Taylor, Griffen and X or 2 backup centers in Cato and X. Looks like one of these guys is going to get moved. By the way, some idiot is trying to sell a Rockets cap with the new logo on ebay for $150. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2849107266&category=2998
i think the rockets should give lenny cooke a try.......he seems like a good player.......he will probably be better than moochie.....in my opinion
We have to carry 5 guys who play the front court positions in case of injuries fatigue or foul trouble. We need a guy who can play the 4 and 5 because the 4 guys we have are "either or" guys, although Cato could play the 4 depending on the matchup, if Griffin or Taylor were to miss extended time, we would need someone who could match up better against 4's to come off the bench. j
One other point guard idea: Steve Blake. The Wiz signed Arenas; now what are they gonna do with Blake?
i think travis bst is signed to the celtics. also, we don't need to cut anyone to add two more players. we signed pike to half the MLE, and griff to half the $1M excepton. that leaves the other half of both of those exceptions to sign people with. there will be a VET point guard added. and maybe hawk will be braught back.
Bye Posey. I liked Posey and thought he brought a lot to the team with his hustle, fast breaks and lunch pale mentality. He had a lot of grit! I will miss him. BUT, I do like the moves we made with Pike and A Griffin. As for who else we should add. I would like to see us bring in a veteran PG and another banger forward. For the PG's I am targeting Kenny Anderson and Mark Jackson. Both are solid veterans and both have loads of playoff experience. This is the kind of backup PG we need. People that have experience and will move the ball around. It would be a HUGE jump from Moochie. Plus it would allow Francis to play some time at the 2. More than anything this team needs a quality backup PG! This is the first priority! The other area of need would be a banger PF. Tyrone Hill is still out there. I do know about his attitude problems and that is a concern but I think on a JVG team he might be a nice addition. He would be that enforcer/banger that this team needs. Plus he is a veteran and has playoff experience. What other PFs are out there? Let's just say those moves happened. That would mean that in this off season the Rockets would have added FOUR players (Pike, AG, K. Anders/MJ, and Ty Hill) that are all 1) Veterans and 2) Have extensive playoff experience. That would be huge for this team!
Good luck JP!! I would like to see Mark Jackson at the point come in. Solid veteran, smart and understands the point position.
Good luck to JP...but only for 78 games/year. My preferences: PG 1st - Mark Jackson > no more than one year. He can still back down opposing PG's and post them up. 2nd - Kenny Anderson > no more than 2 years. He's a career 3:1 A/TO guard (nearly 4:1 in 32 PO games) with decent court vision. 3rd - Travis Best > just turned 31 so he probably wants a 3 yr deal. He's 2" shorter than Moochie! PC/C 1st - Ty Hill > Hey, we let one former Xavier player go, let's bring one in. A little light to play much C in the WC but brings 1,873 minutes of playoff experience. 2nd - Charles Oakley > 42 games, 12 mpg as a Wizard. He can still board, but he'll be 40 in December - can he still play? 3rd - Cherokee Parks > OK, OK, OK...pick yourself up off of the floor and quit laughing. The guy is one of the few remaining players available who is legit at both C & PF. And he has a nice touch around the basket and a decent mid-range shot. I'd prefer Oakley but Parks is 10 years younger and Oakley's not even listed on nba.com's FA list (?). Back to the JP thing...Can some insider give us a hint at which SF's are being offered for Rice?
Tyrone Hill is also a locker room cancer. He spent a lot of time up here in Cleveland and believe me, the Rockets don't need this guy.
They make him sound great. ANYWAYS...does anyone remember what Denver got for trading Posey? "We are very excited to have James join our team," West said. "He is a great athlete who can play multiple positions. We have another veteran who coaches can expect to provide leadership and experience, and we value his ability to play defensively." Haha......yeah he provides a lot of leadership and turnovers. Anyways...he was one of my favorite players. I remember that time when we were winning by 1 or 2 points against the Clippers and there was like 1 second left and Miller just jacked up a shot and Posey fouled him! Hahaha...but thankfully the referees screwed Andre Miller at the free throw line thanks to Steve Francis and we were saved and won that game. He's gone. I'm glad we have Piatkowski and Griffin!
"From a coaching standpoint, we're getting a guy who helps you in all facets of the game." Except offense, Hubie.
