It dosen't matter, Portland sucks anyway. Their franchise has a lot of problems. I'm ready for Boston to put together a decent team. Too much history in that city for them not to have one.

Dumping Raef's motherlode contract (3 more years at $35MM) makes the idea of getting AI more plausible for the Celtics.

That was because Atlanta was afraid that Boston or somebody Boston traded with might take Williams before Houston could draft him. With this trade and assuming that Portland takes Aldridge at #4, there's really not much danger of that. So, why wouldn't Atlanta do that deal?

but the question is, who can the Celtics offer if they don't plan on giving up Peirce and now no 1st round pick? They could package together some young guys, but I don't see Peirce and Iverson playing together either.

If Atlanta was afraid someone (T-wolves or Boston) would pick Williams before the Rockets have a chance at him, they wouldn't make the trade. But now that it looks like neither team will take Williams, they'd be smart to use that to their advantage: get the player they want (Williams) and pick up a lil something-something for their troubles (Head).

insert obvious who wouldn't want Head joke right.....here

From Realgm... ESPN's Andy Katz say there could be a deal between the Bulls and Blazers. The Bulls will select LaMarcus Aldridge at #2 for Portland, while the Blazers take Tyrus Thomas at #4 for the Bulls.

I wish that were true. Then we would just need Minny to take a PG.
