Sign him !!!! I believe we do not really need a trade, maybe letting go of Luther and Hayes but that's about it. As was proven for the 10.000th time yesterday, we need size and athleticism at the SF / PF spot. Battier and Artest is good enough for SF because they make up for their lack of jumping ability and atheliticism by their defense, hustle and physicality. At the PF, Scola and Landry just won't cut it. I do not count Hayes as a PF anymore because I read somewhere he gained weight because he was going to see more minutes at C position, which maybe why he's been worse than last year (even though he was brilliant against Nowitzki and Garnett). We need a big PF, because believe me, when we play Lakers / Spurs / Mavs / Jazz / Blazers you name it, we're going to lose if we do not have some more size out there. Aldridge, Outlaw, Gasol, Bynum, Odom, Duncan, Nowitzki, Boozer, Millsap, Okur etc will all kill us in a 7 game series. Hayes can have maybe one / two good games but he's too much of a liability on offense and we need the points. Landry can share his minutes with Pops or whoever we bring in and they can be used according to the team we play, if size is needed etc.
R Jones, and we get him for basically NOTHING..... He is ready...and is 6'10".....he would be our 3rd tallest player behind Yao and Deke. DD
just looking at the video posted recently, he doesn't look much taller than Landry and definitely isn't stronger...probly does have a better vertical though. might as well sign the guy, i mean what can it hurt? i do think they should ship head and chuck somewhere and give this young guy a chance.
So are there any updates on the Rockets' interest in this guy? Or did it basically go away when we signed Deke. Also, when did Morey say we were looking at a "superstar"? I've been reading this statement around the board ever since I got back from work
I like him as well, however you have got to consider our coach is Adelman. I doubt he gets playing time, so signing him would probably be just like throwing away money
yeah i know he's listed at 6'9 but so is Landry. i'm sayin he didn't look taller...it's probly just cuz he's so lean
We should look at euro center Mirza Megic, he's 7'3 220 lb guy who can rebound, block, and score. He isn't under contract with any NBA team I believe he went undrafted in 2007 but has improved a whole lot. Could we possibly sign this guy and do you think the Rockets are even looking at guys overseas right now?
Seems to have just been signed to a 10 day contract by the Spurs http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/courtside/2009/02/spurs-add-pops.html

But look at that play a one handed cradle rockin windmill jam.... Dang. I was thinking if we traded Landry for a young PG we could sign him and not miss a beat.... I am happy with what we have....but like this guy a lot too. DD
Of course the Rox are looking internationally. If this guy is anything the Rox, and most other squads, are all over him.
Feigen's take on Pops (from his 1pm chat today): ChronicleSports: He is bigger than the current Rockets power forwards. He is just not as good at playing basketball. The Rockets don't consider adding some tall stiff to the roster to be much of a priority just because he is tall. If they could find someone that was a shot blocker, defender and scorer, preferably with some range, that would be a good idea, but I don't think any of those are hanging around looking for jobs.
Feigen clearly doesn't know anything about Pops, he has not seen him play in person.....oh well, not surprised. DD
I know, its just seems like the Spurs are always 1 step ahead. Of course Feigen, like many don't watch hoops past the rockets.
