Maybe it was just the end of the first and the whole second that looked off. It was frustrating that so many shots just dribbled around the rim and wouldn't go in during the second half. But if we hadn't fallen so far behind in the second we could have withstood their run in the third/fourth. I still expect some sort of move from Morey in the near future. The only reason I can think that they would waive Pops today is that his contract would be guaranteed if kept any longer??
The only thing that makes me think something is up is that we basically got rid of two big men today in Dorsey being sent down and Pops.... I don't think his contract would have become guaranteed...but you never know. It just seems odd that 2 big guys are gone, and we are so thin up there to begin with...something smells fishy to me. DD
but we're not thin up front...we lack talent up front, but everyone here keeps refering to the amount of big men we have available like the more big men we have the better we'll be....we need quality over quantity....dorsey wasnt even suiting up. Pops was barely playing, only garbage minutes....technically we only lost pops since we can call up dorsey later...so i dont think that says much considering we're left with 5 others bigs.
Try almost 16 mil this season and he has close to 36M left over the next two years. Kenyon's contract is often referred to as on of the wost in the NBA for a reason. Edit: Wrong Kmart. I live in Denver so that hopefully explains my wrong assumption.
WHAT? BIG POPPA POPS IS GONE!!!! This can't be happening. He was the tallest player on the Rockets besides that other guy that shoots 3's, COOK.
checked the first 9 pages and didn't see this stressed enough, but... isn't "giving more roster flexibility" almost a standard term for "his contract becomes fully garanteed after today. We are cutting him before that happens so if we need to sign someone later, his contract won't have Luxury Tax implications"? I see a lot of people asking "why can't they cut pops later when they actually HAVE TO sign a new player"? My understanding is, once Pops' contract becomes garanteed, his salary will be counted at the end of the year, and thus be included in the LuxTax calculations. To waive Pops now, it reduces the Tax concern should we need to sign someone later...
I know what you mean. I don't understand how fans can us for both NBA players. It makes discussions confusing. I don't understand why any fans would want to name their player after a poorly run company that got beat down by Wal-mart.
So the Rockets initially signed him, hoping they could pull off some other trades to get under the LT. With that not happening, they had to let go of Pops. Makes sense.
From Pop's twitter.... theofficialP21 RT @MacWilliams New Day. New opportunity to impact my future by what i do today. Gods GRACE is sufficient for me. Seemed like a nice guy, really did to bad he just couldn't get a shot here.
It seems very odd. The rockets went from small to even smaller. Outside of the Landry, there is zero shotblocking and the rockets lack of size was completely exposed lastnight against Sacramento.
