So. it is their right to govern their perishioners Why should anyone care . . . . .beyond Catholics. No Government should be involved Government should be out of the marriage business . .. PERIOD!! Rocket River
I don't understand how gay people can believe in the Christian God. Isn't the Bible clear of how it feels about homosexuals?
With all the "benefits" married couples have (property, taxes, hospital visits, estate settlement, etc.), government has to be involved.
Why do they get these benefits? Why can these not be done through contracts and agreements? The problem is . . .. if you do this for couples. . . why not Throuples? Same Sex? or any other "Groupings" of people Why give special privileges to some people based on their relationship status? Rocket River
The problem is that it is entrenched in our system. For example, as an employee, you can generally add your spouse to insurance. Without being officially married in the eyes of the government, one could change spouses on a whim. If we have to start relying on contracts and lawyers to do all of this stuff, then that would be a huge expense that would leave many couples out. It's one of the reasons gays have been fighting for marital rights so that they can enjoy the same benefits a hetero couple enjoy. But you know all that.
So many hinderences of progress is infrastructure Like we cannot get better internet because it means pulling up millions of miles of cable and replacing it with Fiber . .or what have you That same sentiment shows itself in the paperwork and bureaucracy and social movements Traditionalism . . . . we at somepoint are going to need to pull the isht up and throw it out Rocket River
I would think that makes it pretty clear, no? I know individuals like to pick and choose what they want to apply to their life and what they don't want to apply to their life, but I thought the passing references were pretty clear on how God feels about homosexuals.
We buy cars and houses with a mount of paperwork in contracts. Thats something that is protected by insurance and can be discarded at a whim. Making a commitment for life should be a little more difficult than slapping down some pocket change for a Vegas marriage.
There is some discussion among more liberal Christians that the ancient Greek was mistranslated to "homosexual" in the 1940s. Here is a Methodist blog discussing the subject. Their point is that the ancient Greek "arsenokoitai" meant different things when Paul wrote his letters and is incongruous with modern perceptions of homosexuality. Rachel Held Evans wrote about this before died. How God feels about this doesn't seem to be easy to answer. Biblical literalists will say that it is, but their certainty feels shaky when translation and context are considered.
