Pop continues to be the most overrated coach of all-time

the spurs have a pretty weak roster. i can probably name 10 teams with more raw talent. it boggles my mind that they had the best record in the league. pop did an awesome job, but in the end they got beat by a team with more talent and younger fresher legs.

 

A championship caliber team beats anybody. There's no such thing as a bad match-up for them.

 

Dude you are r****ded Pop is one of the greatest coaches of all time....he knows how to get it done....if you follow his system you will win....Mad respect for what he has done

 

Whoever wrote this thread doesn't know what they are talking about. The way Popovich has developed some unsung players is not even funny, while taking some of the most useless players or marginal players into fairly decent contributors.

He'll be a great coach for years to come regardless of the talent of his teams, in fact I think San Antonio would be an ideal place for a youngster to go in play. Popovich is the type of coach that could make teams, like Clippers and Wizards very formidable playoff contenders or even a 1st round home court team. Teams heavy on young talent, little on BB IQ; team play, especially on defense; make the players understand the concept of team; compete every night of the season and etc.

I think his coaching ability is even more on display now, than ever especially with an aging Duncan and oft-injured Ginoblili. The Spurs still managed one of the best records in the league with a team that some what overachieved this year.

There are some coaches out there, who are even well-respected and considered very good who may not have even won one title or more with the San Antonio rosters from over the last decade. Sort of like, Bill Belichick, when he won he was a genius, but when he lost he was considered overrated. Yet, look at consistency of both programs and how both organizations makes lesser draft picks and players into more substantial contributors on the field/court. Even when there superstars or key players are injured, the quality of team's play rarely drops off to the point of being non-competitive or completely overmatched. Even being without a heavily talented or athletic roster.

 

It's weird some of those teams are near the bottom of playoff picture or completely missed the playoffs all together, but I bet how much those teams improve, if Popovich took over as head coach.
