Was doing some speculating last night after the talks of Kobe holding back the Lakers. To a degree I agree with the notion, the issue is getting equal value back for Kobe. That is where the speculation came in, because the Mamba is holding the Lakers back, not by much but, he is.

If Kobe were traded it wouldn't be to any team in the West besides San Antonio. One because he has a no trade clause & no other team that could fairly compensate the Lakers for Kobe is where Kobe would want to be. The Spurs could put together a package for Kobe without tearing up their core or letting go of much of their youth. Pop would embrace working with Kobe & vice versa.

However Kobe would most likely go east. Would Chicago want him, probably not. Miami, no. NYK? Yes, the Knicks would totally embrace Kobe & the Mamba would totally embrace the Mecca of Basketball MSQ. With Kobe & Carmelo that could be a poor man's 90s Bulls team. With Tyson Chandler anchoring the post he could be their Luc Longley along with Lin being their Steve Kerr. With an interim coach at the moment, the speculation doesn't seem so far-fetched.

    Now what is the trade?

    Lakers send:
    Kobe Bryant

    Knicks send:
Amare Stoudemire, Iman Shumpert, & 2012 Rockets 1st round pick

Salaries don't totally match up without the value of the pick but the pick should balance out the numbers for initial approval.

    Is this equal value?

Who would be the coach? Woodson? Maybe, maybe not. If you're somewhat smart you know who is available & could complete the puzzle. Phil Jackson, the man who once was a Knick, dealt with a superstar tandem(s)
especially a wing combo which Kobe & Carmelo would be. Jackson has also worked with Kobe on two occasions already. Why not a third? Could this trio bring at least ONE championship to New York? Is it worth the one if one at all? I say yes, what do you?

Rockets pick? The Knicks don't have the Rockets pick.

Why would they take Amar'e if they already have Gasol and Bynum?

How would Melo and Kobe coexist?

Would the Knicks really put Jeffries as their starting PF?

Why would the Lakers trade such an icon? Why would they take a flier on the oft-injured Amar'e?

What were you thinking when you posted this?

    Nets not Knicks excuse me.

Why not Amare. Bring him off the bench as your sixth at time at the four & five. Relieving him of being the second option but now the third where he can thrive. Not only ass a third option but also as a sixth man.

Kobe & Carmelo existed pretty well with a bunch of other superstars in the Fibas & Olympics. This entity of basketball is so overrated.

    Maybe, maybe not.

    Speculation as the post states.

    Lakers traded Shaq
    76ers traded Iverson
    T'Wolves traded Garnett
    Jazz traded D-Will

I can go on & on about superstar cornerstone pieces being traded. Why wont the Lakers trade Kobe if it improves their team instantly & down the road?

You're still not making any sense.

You said you confused the nets with the knicks, but the Nets aren't trading amar'e the knicks are.

You can go on and on all you want to but the Lakers won't be trading Kobe Bryant this off-season especially for Amare,Shumpert, and the Rockets 1st rd pick.

You seriously think the Lakers would take on Amare his bad contract and bad knees for the man in LA. Good luck with that.

Kobe is still a far better player than Amare, Kobe has a NTC, Amare is breaking down on a max contract for 4 more years. Amare is useless for the Lakers, Pao is better and (surprisingly) cheaper. The deal doesn't make any sense for the Lakers, if they're going to trade Kobe (yea right) it's going to be for someone better than Amare.

Not gonna happen, Kobe is the face of LA. Kobe will not be trade even if it improves the team. Unless of course Kobe himself demands a trade which is not happening.

That would be the stupidest move in the history of basketball. Stat's contract is very bad and he's damaged goods. I'd take Kobe at 50 over Stat right now.
