Thats hilarious. I can't imagine someone literally booing him at the grocery store, but that is pure comedy gold.
Anybody realize that if the Yankees were up by 1 why didn't they pitch to Jordan and if he got a run in just strike out Romney and go into extra innings?
is there a major uproar when teams IBB Berkman to pitch to Ensberg? is there an uproar when teams constantly throw the ball to Philip Buchanon? is there an uproar when teams don't care where Ryan Bowen is on the court? get my point?
yeah, what's worse. a coach possibly being too competitive or a bunch of people turning up their righteous indignation controls all the way to 11 and trying to turn him into some sort of monster who is a horrible person? i really don't think it was fair he was ever in that position to begin with and i don't know if i'd have a problem with whatever he decided to do. i don't even know if he's just some guy who is the coach and got put in a bad situation or if he's one of those supercompetitive types who might make the game a bad experience. i'm glad romney plays little league. i hope he's on whatever teams he wants to be on and it brings him a lot of joy, but if he's going to be disappointed about his failures and is apparently so bad that he's going to fail every time, then why is he there? and why should it be put upon the other coach to do something about it. that's coach's kids probably want to win, too. and he probably wants them to have fun after the game. why should he purposely be forced to go against that? people have been asking why hit him after the best hitter. i don't know, maybe the other coach wanted him to have at bats with a guy on base a lot, and maybe he never could've seen the above situation coming, but maybe he did it for situations just like this. hey, you don't wanna be a bad sport and pitch to the cancer kid do ya? how about throwing a few to my best hitter? people keep talking about it teaching life lessons but i'm not sure that's for 10 year olds. i don't know if i'd care about some "greater message" if my team had just lost the championship team. at 10, i doubt i would've comprehended it, but i could comprehend winning and losing. at 6 in teeball i wanted to win, a lot. teaching lessons is something for older kids (like in high school or college) who may actually get it and apply it to their own lives. one of the best things about sports is how they correspond to life and how they can be so much more than what they really are. and yet another of the best things about sports is that they treat everyone as equals. there is no black and white, no christian or muslim, no gay or straight, no healthy or cancer-survivor, just the bat, the ball, the field, and who performs the best. and in sports romney can be just like everyone else for a while. as others have said, what does it say to him that everyone feels bad he even had to bat. that tells him he's different and to be singled out. apparently he wants to get better so he can come through at some point, and to me that's the best attitude of anything i read in that article. if you wanna life lesson for a 10 year old, that's the one to focus on. side note: i usually like reilly's articles a lot, but he just took a hanging slider of a story that he knew would get everyone on his side and tried to hit it out of the park. from my perspective, trying to demonize this coach over this is just as bad as whatever perceived bad intentions that coach had.
Bountiful, Utah, reminds me of a Chinese buffet restaurant that is just off I-15 (I don't recall the exit #) in a shopping center. Not a bad one by my standard. Believe it or not, I ate there 3 times over the last 2 years when I stopped over SLC for both leisure and business travels. Carry on.
Yeah I think both coaches were lame. I am not thrilled with the coach who bat Jordan before Romney...he was obviously counting on the other teams sence of fair play to make em pitch to his best hitter. Which they might not have done with another lesser hitter who isn't a cancer survivor.
Whoa, be a man [coach] and teach your kids to be 'men' ~ you don't walk the best player to face a kid who is just out there for fun because of issues beyond his control. I fully support slapping that coach backhanded with a pinky ring while yelling b****. Seriously though the main thing is you want your players to face pressure situations and do what is necessary to win by performing their best. The coach made his entire team feel like losers ~ they will hear about this and be teased for years.
i understand all the crap this guy is getting, but I would agree with the call. This kid has beaten cancer. Do you really think that losing a baseball game is going to be the defining moment in his childhood? Do you guys not see the last sentence where he got up the next day and wanted to work on his hitting? this kid was disappointed and sad for 4 hours, tops. the next day he was fine! its not the special olympics. this kid is totally mentally competent. surely this kid and his parents realized going into the season that this was baseball, and there is some ounce of strategy to it. and im sorry, if i am one of the kids on the other team and my coach pitches to their best hitter and we lose because of it, im gonna be pretty mad at him. plus, the parents of those kids would be all on his case too. Somebody has to be the last out, right?
