I don't even call them "polo's," but golf shirts. It's what I wear to games during the warm months and to the office. I've got golf shirts with everything from: 1. I've got a ton of them from just about every branch and unit. When you're in the military, it's something you trade often and I've got one from nearly every Navy squadron and ship, nearly every Marine squadron or unit and nearly every Air Force squadron or wing. The best one I have is a black Navy SEAL Team 6 shirt, with the embroidered Team 6 crest. That shirt kicks ass. 2. Porsche golf shirt. One of my favorites. 3. Tiger Woods golf shirts. I've got like 20 in my closet. When he gets a new one, I have to get that one as well. My kids get one for me every Christmas it seems. 4. Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail- My dad works for them in Alabama and I get tons of them. 5. I love my Greg Norman shirts. He may be a choker, but he has good taste in shirts. 6. Tabasco- Love those shirts. 7. I've got a Rockets one with the older logo and several Alabama Nike shirts. I usually wear them tucked in with a pair of khakis, a belt and some Sperry top-siders (my favorite casual shoe) or some New Balance shoes.
I would seriously wear a polo with military insignia. I'm not kidding at all -- that would rock. I may start going topless as R2K (creepily) suggests.
I'd have a ton of shirts for whatever unit I happened to be in. I'd go to these joint exercises or travel wherever and I'd just swap with different units, different branches. I've probably got 25 different shirts from all over in my closet.
Do any of those shirts need a home or are you just making me jealous? I would wear one if you would sign it and write "FDR was a wimp!" on it.
I went to private school here in Houston. We didn't have uniforms. But the official uniform was a polo shirt by Ralph Lauren, Dockers Khakis, and loafers, preferably Cole Haan. What's funny is I see private school kids today wearing the exact same thing. I graduated from high school 11 freakin years ago and these kids are still dressing like dorks. Its unbelievable. They make me feel bad for dressing like that back in the day. My God polo people, if you have any pride, diversify your wardrobe. Its not cool anymore. You can still by Ralph Lauren, Hilfiger or Nautica. They have other options. Explore them. I implore you. Please.
i dont understand all the animosity towards polos. i obviously have many polos, and i thoroughly enjoy wearing em. i definitely dress in the typical southern frat style (khakis, polo, sandals or boatshoes) and i think it looks pretty damn good, especially when compared to the other so-called "frat" look around here which includes spiky bleached hair, a hairless body, and skin-tight clothes...... way too trendy, and waaayyyyy too metrosexual. dont get me wrong, i've got lots of clothes (including lots of designer italian clothing), but the pony and khakis suits me just fine, thank you very much. i dress frat because i am frat.
Nah....I've got one from the USNS Supply (what an obvious name for a supply ship I might send you, if I can find it). I also have a NYPD one I got from a friend in NYC before 9/11 and I wore that and my military ones exclusively that year. I'll sign it, but it'll be the first time I've signed something since I gave up baseball in college!
I am so glad that nobody in my frat nor anybody I know in other fraternities (at SWT/TxState BTW) abide by this. I do know a few "metrosexuals" though but the polo is not in their closet. I do wear them though. I have about 3-5 polos to go along with the 12-15 t-shirts that I wear regularly. I went to 3 private high schools. The first was St. Thomas here in Houston. The dress code was Dockers and a collered shirt. People naturally wore polos 'cause we didn't want to wear button ups every single day. The second school (in Singapore) had a strict dress code of blue Dockers and a white polo with the school logo on it. The third school was Northwest Academy (now Houston Christian) which had a flexible uniform. Dockers or shorts (black, blue, or khaki) and plain polos (White, blue, navy, black, grey). The only rule was you couln't wear black and black.
my god Bob....it's only creepy if you follow that advice. on the other hand.....I doubt any one of us would mind if meggo were to follow my advice...
There's nothing wrong with a polo shirt as long it doesn't have a computer company's logo on it and it fits well.
It's almost like the darker colors are warmer and the lighter are cooler. This needs to be thoroughly investigated.
