Maybe this doesn't happen in the Bay area, but in Houston, everybody wears polos and because of their versatility, they wear them in so many ways. You can wear it to work, casual, you can buy them really big and wear them hip hop stlyle, the posibilities are endless or limited to three, either way, polos rule.

I have never owned a Polo shirt, but this thread has inspired me to go out and buy one. Tomorrow afternoon, I'm heading to Zellers.

    Vive la revolución del Polo!

I wear polo shirts 99% of the time. And if I didn't work at a big company, I would wear a polo shirt, khaki shorts, and sandals to work everyday.

When I'm not golfing or working, I occasionally wear something else - and if I haven't made my point clear by now - I have more polos than my wife has shoes!

BBob, you rule. You've nailed Polos for what they are.

Hell, I've even purchased a stupid polo from time to time, for those days where the consultant is encouraged to be more accessible, etc. (ie the client has a picnic/casual fridays, etc.). But honestly, polos have absolutely no character. Can you even tell your friends apart when they're all wearing these stupid shirts?

Your wife is right, put on a polo and you may as well be driving a sedan a4 or one of those lil' pick up trucks that the lesbians use in their mating repertoire.

Now that I've gone back to school, I've reclaimed myself. *whoo*. Looking back, I have to wonder if I'd still be making bank were it not for my apprehension about wearing the most dull clothes on the planet every friggin' Friday. *yech*

Here are my thoughts on the situation:

I feel like the people who are anti-polo are older, for the most part.

The people who have polo's and wear them regularly are younger and usually more in tune with fashion. ;)

    how old are you rez-'dawg'?

I think it's more likely that some of us were the ones that made fun of the kids wearing polos w/ turned up collars back in '85.

Some of us, apparently, were the ones wearing polos w/ turned up collars in '85.

Why do you think this whole polo revival is happening?

No polos for me. I go with the short-sleeve button-down shirt with the tie. Just like Sipowitcz. :)

Man...Didn't know that Polos were so disliked.

I, for one of few who have posted in this thread, love Polos. Hell, I'm wearing one right now. It's a casual alternative to a t-shirt...what the hell else do you wear when there is no need for a dress shirt?

Go to any mall, and I'd wager that a good 40%-60% of the mens shirts being worn were polos.

Short-sleeve with tie - THAT is the TRUE MULLET OF MULLETS. Short-sleeve shirt is a no-no anyway, but short-sleeve with a tie is the mother of all mullets :).

sjc, mrpaige was kidding about the tie part (I hope).

but short sleeve button shirts have no mullitude. they are what they are. go for a pullover, or go for a button-down. put the two of them together and you end up w/ silliness.

A polo shirt with a white T-shirt underneath and your set for winter. Nothing is as versatile as the polo shirt.

Well, it's looking like I better start crafting my ode to the polo.

Returned yesterday to the scene that started all of this, Banana Republican (a store I shamelessly like, by the way), to do more research. They are now selling these buttonless all-white polos made of terry cloth. Maybe that would go nicely with a thick white headband. At least in a pinch I could dry my car with it.

rezdawg, I like the age analysis. That certainly gives hope to all you youngsters out there: you will eventually wear honest shirts and pants that fit. :p In any case, it's true that I am incredibly un-hip.
