The "Occupy Wall Street" movement has only been around for a couple of weeks, where as the Tea Party has been around for almost 3 years now. Everyone knows what the Tea Party is about, but of course you're going to completely dismiss the poll because that wasn't spelled out in detail.
Stupid comment. More importantly, though, it's counter productive, because you are smearing people who once voted Democrat, people we should be trying to reach out to instead of hurling childish insults at them, insults which only push them further into the arms of the GOP.
I don't understand your comment. The tea party members didn't vote Democrat. They were almost exclusively Republican voters.
and idiots who call democrats communists win elections. it's way past time for the democrats to take their gloves off.
Many of them once were loyal Democrats, but switched to the GOP in 1980. They are called Reagan Democrats. Clinton lured some of them back, but then betrayed them with NAFTA. These disenfranchised White voters can give Democrats the super majority needed to push through a progressive economic agenda, but calling them racist won't make that goal any easier.
Tea Party members are almost exclusively Republicans. There were almost no former Democrats among the Tea Party. Those Democrats may indeed now be Republican but evidence doesn't really show that the tea party were ever really Democrats. http://blog.christianitytoday.com/ctpolitics/2011/08/tea_party_and_c.html
Again, based on considerable interactions with TEA Partiers, I disagree. On the TP Patriots board, easily the biggest of the many TP tents, anyone who makes even a vaguely racist statement is decried as a Democrat plant and run off immediately.
Good for them. How about Islamophobic statements or anti-immigrant statements? And these people don't seem they are worried about being "run off":
Why do you consider the first or third one racist? I am pretty sure Obama would say he is of African decent. I am not sure you understand what racism means.
I'm not sure you understand what it means. The reason people think it's easier to believe Obama is African or Muslim is because of his differences which include his race. A white man would not have a problem convincing some he wasn't muslim, or that he was born in the U.S. When people have different expectations or are more willing to believe things about someone based on their race it's racist. There are plenty of things you could do to help you actually learn about the different facets of racism. If you are really concerned about it then I can point some out to you. Just message me through the board and I will help.
Neither of those has to do with skin color. It has to do with his relations to so many Muslims and his name. And he is of African decent, not even he would disagree with that. That has nothing to do with the color of his skin color either. This is pathetic.
Like I said, you don't understand racism. A white person could associate with equally as few Muslims as Obama and would never be accused of being a Muslim. Nobody would doubt a white President was actually born in the United States. And yes his name is part of it. But if you are going to pretend that a white candidate would face those problems you are being dishonest. Also the sign by the racist tea party member didn't say the white house has a lyin' person of African decent, they called him an African. He's not. And he would argue that, and has argued that. He's American. Add to the evidence of racism that the woman included African as if it was a negative. You really are clueless when it comes to racism. I hope for the sake of anyone that knows you that you learn a bit more about it. Best of luck. Like I said I'll be happy to give you the names of some people and places where you can go to learn about it.
I'm sure it was not your intent, but it sounds like they were not repudiating the racism as much as trying to place the blame on Democrats. Maybe I'm just being too hard on them, but there is a big difference between repudiating racism, and blaming it on interlopers.
What is pathetic is for the need for Tea Baggers to use poorly thought out puns to 'make a point'. This isn't a college football game folks. You can make all the 'witty' sayings you want but attacking a person and targeting things that have nothing to do with the issues or policies at hand is just a macrocosm of ad hominem. Seriously. Its more of a hate rally than anything else.
What does that mean? Banning people and labeling them Democrat plants doesn't mean your party is clean of racism. In fact, every segment of the U.S. population has its share of racists. To say the Tea Party is free of racists is so ridiculous you really just lose credibility.
I think the time to worry passed. The elections bloodbath that gave Republicans control of seats, governorships and state legislatures gave them extraordinary clout for redrawing seats and districts. Voters fed in anger and rewarded republicans for doing nothing and punished incumbents for taking risks. That isn't to say dems are blameless. But this overall distrust in government is going to lead to further blowback both sides won't be able to contain
