Sam is 34, that is too old. Jim Jackson is probably too old to really significantly contribute to a Rockets Championship at 33, so we should not be getting more players around his age. We need more players Yao or at the most Mobely's age. I am all for trading Francis, but I don't want to trade him for someone nearing the downslope of their career.

No way! Sam might be playing well this season, but he's old and not much of a passer. I doubt he'd be much of an improvement over Francis in our system.

I believe that the Rockets would benefit greatly from a veteran leader because the team is just too young. I don't see Francis or Yao as developing into leaders any time soon. The erratic play and inconsistency is just too problematic.

As for the age difference, look at John Stockton. He was still a great player who maintained fairly consistent stats by the time he retired, and was able to lead his team into the playoffs year after year after year. Sure they never actually won a championship but I believe with the current Rockets team, with the addition of Cassell, there is more than enough talent to do so.

Look at Cassell's numbers from recent years. He improved every year in points, FG%, 3P%, FT%

    99-00 MIL 81 81 35.8 .466 .289 .876 .90 2.90 3.70 9.0 1.26 18.6
    00-01 MIL 76 75 35.6 .474 .306 .858 .60 3.20 3.80 7.6 1.16 18.2
    01-02 MIL 74 73 35.2 .463 .348 .860 .70 3.50 4.20 6.7 1.22 19.7
    02-03 MIL 78 77 34.6 .470 .362 .861 .70 3.70 4.40 5.8 1.13 19.7
    03-04 MIN 49 49 36.5 .491 .418 .888 .50 2.80 3.30 7.7 1.14 21.0

Sadly enough, I believe Cassell has a better chance of leading us to a championship in 6 years than Francis does in 13 years.

In any case, I know its not gonna happen so I just hope Francis will become the player that everyone needs him to be.

The age thing is a big concern but I would still do it. Cassell is having an unbelievable season and I think he could probably keep it up for a few more years. Francis is good and young but here I have to agree with Francis's critiques that he hasn't proven he can play consistently at a high level. While Cassell will probably be unable to maintain his current level of play I think his playmaking and leadership skills would take the Rox far in short time whereas I have some doubts about where we're going with Francis.

But I agree with that there's no way the T-wolves would consider a trade like that with the way that team is going and other than a very select few guards, Kidd comes to mind, I wouldn't trade Francis.

No-brainer we should do it, unfortunately, Francis' contract prevent any significant move right now.

so you want a player who has 1 or 2 good seasons left in him, for a player who has 8 good seasons left, plus has a way better overall carear than cassel.

I said no. Because Cassel's play is not much different from SF's. In this season Cassel plays very well, but his play is very set up for the transition play with Garnett. If he comes to Yao, I don't think that it's gonna work.

If we have to trade SF, I might look for someone like young Stockton or Mark Jackson.

Isn't Cassell 33 or 34 years old? How is trading Francis for him going to make this a better team?
