I'm pro-pot, but I wouldn't let 14 year olds smoke it at my place. Are you saying you'd let them come to your place to drink since you're pro-beer?
Yeah, Freak, I don't see the logic there. I'm still pro-legalization, even though I don't want a) 14-yr olds to smoke it or b) a smoke-out on my front steps.
Kagy, I think you did the right thing. I would be shocked if they get anything more than a big scare from the cops. I don't agree that it is a victimless crime - mar1juana is a gateway drug, which leads to drugs that are much more harmful to society. If they are openly smoking at 14 they are well on the way to productive lives. Batman Jones ".....(not to mention oil which, by the way, is only 'necessary' as you said because all you 'right-wing conspirators' refuse to consider cleaner, more efficient alt energy sources..." I'm assuming this is a joke or sarcasm and you just missed the winking smiley face. Is that a plastic keyboard you are typing on Batman? Any plastic bottles in the fridge? Used any aspirin lately? Comparing the purchase of oil with mar1juana use ridiculous.
Davo, again, I think we're talking about different things using the same phrase. I already explained what I meant by victimless crime-- you're talking about something else, the tangential consequences of the crime. Smoking mar1juana's not good for you. It's especially not good for 14-year-olds. But in terms of the parties directly affected by the statute that makes smoking mar1juana illegal, there isn't a direct victim of the crime. I know this much: it smells like ****. Worse than cigarette smoke and that's saying something given that I will walk several yards out of my way to avoid second-hand smoke.
Damn, BK. I told you that's cause they're smoking that Mexican dirt weed. Some smells very nice, almost piney. Or so I've heard.
Alchol is more of a "Gateway" Drug than Pot. 10% of all Americans use Pot for recreation and/or medical reasons. Pot is unoffically the #1 Cash crop in almost all 50 states. Terrorists don't buy guns at gunshows OR profit from pot sold in the US since almost all of the pot on the streets was grown domestically or imported from Mexico and Canada. The US forest Industry, pharmacudical industry, and the ever growing Prision industry pay millions to lobbyist to keep pot illegal. The War on Drugs is huge failure, and a waste of Taxpayers money. Legalize, Tax and Educate (Stop the blatant lies by the Government and the Media) BK - The kids don't want trouble from the Cops so if you tell them to get lost of you are calling the cops, I bet you never see them again.
BK, this crime obviously does have a victim: these kids are depressing the quality of life at your apartment complex. They've got you and quite a few other posters talking about it on the BBS, the apartment manager's worried about it. It's stinking up the halls. You are being victimized (in a small way) by their presence. It'd be one thing if they lived there and were soiling their own den, so to speak. But, if they live someplace else and are coming to your place, bringing criminal elements, stinking up the halls, damaging the reputation of the apartment complex, etc., they deserve no consideration -- they've obviously given you none. I wouldn't say a word to them. I'd just call the cops and have them hauled off. One consideration: race. You didn't mention it. If the kids are white, I expect they would not get in much trouble (with the law) -- little enough anyway that I'd be willing to call. If the kids were hispanic or black, I'd expect the police would be more harsh and would be somewhat more reluctant to call as a result. I might call anyway though. If I did feel a measure of compassion, I'd tell them, "I'm calling the cops right now, so you'd better go. You won't get a warning next time."
Since it was asked, I'll mention it. The first two kids were white. Of the second two, one was white, and one was Asian (Pacific Islander is the term for it, I think). That was a bit odd. Obviously it's a stereotype, but I've never thought of Asian teenagers as being much harm to anything other than the occasional Honda Civic. Don't know why he'd want to hang out with those kids.
Was the White kid the same one from previous? Or is this a situation of two seperate groups picking you steps as the Dope Spot? Maybe word is getting out that that Kagy Dude won't rat you out. The Best place to smoke in the Apts Rocket River
Easy answer for your predicament: The first time you should have definitely warned them since they were "hanging out" so close to where you live. The second time, call the cops! As for legalizing mar1juana, kids can screw up their lives by devoting their time to smoking pot if they want. I don't even care as long as people aren't aloud to smoke it in public. Smoking pot in the streets, restaurants, or any other public place should never be legal. Of course this would be too hard to control so people would be smoking in public anyway forcing nonsmokers like myself to smell that god-awful stench. Nevermind, I take it back. mar1juana should NEVER be legal!
The degree to which oil is necessary is high because we made it that way. If the government would pull their heads out of their asses, they'd realize they could solve a number of ecological issues by growing mar1juana for a number of industrial purposes, including many of those which require large amounts of oil. As for the legality of the two substances who cares?? More people have died in the fight for the control of the world's oil supplies than from anything(control, consumption, etc) to do with mar1juana.
I'm completely pro-pot, but for those kids to smoke it in such a public place is complete idiocy. And at fourteen, they are WAY too young to be experimenting with that stuff. They deserve a little scare, but certainly not prison-time. As far as supporting terrorism through weed, I don't have to worry about that. I get only the purest "supplies" from within my family!
You could use hemp for biomass fuel. You could use that instead of oil. You could use hemp for paper, reducing deforestation (you can net much more paper from the same amount of energy expenditure). You could use hemp for textiles (for instance the Betsy Ross flag was made from hemp, Columbus's sails were made from hemp) instead of plants like cotton, which are much worse for the soil. Go to any pro-hemp site and you'll find more examples than you can shake a stick at. ZRB, you b*stard. You're in the Northwest aren't you? You need to tell all these guys that the killa don't smell the same as the dirt.
Thanks, Hayes. We should all be familiar with many uses of the cannabis plant. Hey, a few miles outside of Houston we even have HEMPSTEAD, TX, USA. If they were to smell good fresh buds, they would probably think it was candy. It's a shame that people have to use the molded, pesticide-ridden, dried-out, dirty old imported stuff. That crap IS dangerous in many ways.
davo, Maybe you didn't read the whole thread. Trader_Jorge (who's been conspicuously absent since his thin arguments were exposed for their thinness) suggested that pot wasn't "victimless" since it funded terrorists or other bad guys. Someone else posted that you could say the same and more about oil. He posted back that oil was necessary to the economy. Interesting here, by the way, that he didn't say it was "necessary" -- just necessary to the economy. Which reminds me of Baker's original (later abandoned and virtually censored) reason we were in the Gulf War, but that's another story. I'm not comparing oil to mar1juana. mar1juana does far less damage and funds far less enemies of peace, democracy and liberty than oil does. And, as eloquently stated above, it's also a much better, cleaner, cheaper energy source. And it can also be grown in America. We don't even have to fight wars over it. And, as referenced above, we could save all kinds of money by not prosecuting it's use, not incarcerating people for it's use and not spending incredible amounts of money lobbying for the continuation of this obviously stupid law (against all reason and the advice of the medical profession). But, you know, I'm a Democrat. Turns out we're the new fiscal conservatives. Kagy: You get no problems from me for narcing to your apt. managers. I think it would be cooler if you just told them not to do it there or you'd call the cops, their parents, whoever... But it's not your responsibility to confront them directly. Even so, I don't really know why it would bother you that badly unless you were worried about their well being. And if that is what you're worried about, even if they do it twenty times right under your window, I think you'd serve them better with one warning than by narcing to anyone. But as long as you don't involve the cops and the ridiculously strict penalties, you'll get no grief from me.
Just curious, how many Democrats in Congress have come out publicly in support of the legalization of mar1juana?
